Record of Youth | Kdrama Review.

Review by @kenechukwu97 · 1231d · of Record of Youth

Whenever I watch a TV show or read a piece of literature, I'm not usually so inclined on focusing on the protagonist or a series of protagonists. I prefer when the story has various complexities and give sufficient backstory about minor characters. This usually gives a huge dynamic to the storyline.

This particular Kdrama, Record of Youth, is one of such shows that got me captivated and also made me curious to dig into the backstory of so many characters. The more I got to understand why each character (both major and minor character) acts the way he or she acts, the easier it made it to be fascinated by their dynamics.

By the end of the day, I can't help but notice that this Kdrama tells a wholesome story about the struggle of people in their youthful age and the series of things they have to go through in their attempt to contend with life and make a name for themselves in their chosen profession.

The storyline is different from the usually Crime and Action kinda stories I usually add to my watchlist, but I have no regrets after watching this. The production crew did a really good job and each of the characters did an amazing job of portraying their roles and relaying the emotions unique to their characters.

As you binge-watch this Kdrama, it will allow you to see the world from the perspective of young lads who are pursuing their dream in the entertainment industry. Their family background and how they grew up affected how they dealt with challenges in their youthful age. I don't think that's a surprise though. It's fairly understandable.

This qualifies as a family Drama. It's the kinda drama you can sit down with your family and watch without feeling awkward about any erotic stuff. If anything, I can guarantee that there will surely be lessons to learn from this Kdrama. Lessons that can be applied in relationships between families. Young lads can also learn some things about being relentless in the pursuit of success.

I've read some comments about the family scenes being boring, but I don't buy into that narrative. For the record, the most interesting dynamics in the show has so much to do with each of the families. Lemme quickly give you a caption that best explains what to expect from each of the families;

  • Hye-Jun's Family = Poor

  • Jeong-Ha's Family = Divorced parents.

  • Hae-Hyo's Family = Rich and Pampery.

  • Jin-U's Family = An average family.

This Kdrama paints a good picture of what life is like for young lads from these family backgrounds and the struggle they have to contend with in their attempt to walk on a path that will lead to a dazzling future.

I have a high rating for this show. Check it out.

I saw this drama and I was like "Korean has this kind of drama too?" lol... It was a rare watch for me and I enjoyed every bit of it.

More like I learnt so much from it, I mean haha.

And did you do an off drama research on the lead guy? The drama seem to be about how he actually grew up in real life... He hasn't been rich and his family background story isn't so sweet like some had but was both emotional and inspirational just like in this drama.

I like these kind of drama, full of lessons while you get entertained 🙂

Ohhhh, that's Park Bo Gum and Park So Dam. I haven't watch it yet but seems like it is a good drama. I might as well add this to my watchlist.

This is definitely a k-drama to look forward to. I thought I'd watched all possible K-dramas but it's nice to add another one to the list. The series sounds intriguing and I can't wait to watch it. Thanks for the review.🌷

Based on the families that you discussed here, it just explains that no family is perfect and no human is born to live happily. Life is just like that, you have to find your purpose while surviving your own battles.

I used to think that most Korean drama is just all about love and power tussle but this is quite exemplary, making me feel like giving Korean drama a new look.

    Well done
