I was watching coming to America 2 when I suddenly paused at the realization that I was watching it for the second time when I hadn't watched coming to America 1. I decided to watch it just out of curiosity and to be honest, I didn’t regret it. I would call this old but gold, in fact I enjoyed watching it even more than coming to America 2. Prince Akeem was even more funny as a young man than as King Akeem, and at the end of the day It looked like coming to America 2 wasn’t even about Akeem. The story of Prince Akeem made me wish I was born into royalty and spoiled silly because that guy was really spoiled silly. So spoiled that he was bathed even as an adult.

But then if there was something I loved about the story, it is the message it carries. Like a lot of these old movies, they have really strong messages behind them. Even with how spoiled he was, he had a good heart and was just a man looking for love even though he acted like a fool 90% of the time. He was supposed to honor an arranged marriage with what looked like the perfect woman who would obey him and do whatever he wanted without question. At least this is something a lot of African men would want. But Akeem was different, he did not want a robot for a wife, he wanted a real partner and went to America looking for one.

Akeem wanted to find someone who wouldn't care about his background, so he went on a 40 day challenge in America looking for that one. In the process he pretended to be poor and that was when he met Lisa, a simple girl whose father owned a restaurant. He falls in love with her, but then a new problem arises. He realizes he could not just have this one like he always had so he must really make her like him too. He decided to win her heart the old fashion way and he succeeded.

But then came another problem, when she realized she did not really know Akeem, discovering his identity made her feel betrayed. Now Akeem must do everything to make sure he doesn’t lose her after going through so much to get her. He had to prove to her that he doesn’t care about his own wealth or status, he just wants her and this kinda changed her mind… You probably can guess how it ends, but it doesn’t dispute the fact that it was a beautiful ending.
