I grew up from a family of movie lovers. The more interesting part was that back then neighbors were literally all movie lovers and I'm talking of the days of movie houses where you go to rent movies and return after watching it. Those days of Video tapes that graduated to Video compact disc. Those good old days of Sylvester Stallone, Van Damme, Jackie Chan, Denzel Washington of the Hollywood movies. The days of Lion heart, Street Fighter etc.
Growing up In an environment of movie lovers made me a movie fanatic. I actually dreamt of featuring in a movie growing up. And now I'm all grown up. Although the dream is still intact, that is if I ever get an opportunity.
I had thought all the stuff and stunts done in a movie were real. That kept me wondering how people get to capture all these life events of a person in videos. I guess there was so much I didn't know about.
One thing I can't forget easily was the first day I saw one of my favorite movie heroes, Denzel Washington, as John Creasy died in the movie Man on fire. John was hired as a bodyguard to protect Pita, but along the line Pita was kidnapped and John went all out to save her. In order to save Pita in the movie, Creasy surrenders himself, after already he's been shot by Aurelio (Gero Camilo). He bleeds out and dies. The shock and fear that gripped me that particular day. I thought that was the end for Denzel as I watched him bleed.
I had walked into the room to the last fight of the movie from school. Excitedly, I threw my bag away, pulled my clothes quickly and put on some comfortable house clothes and sat to watch my hero do his interesting stunts. Although it wasn't an easy fight for him as he won but he was wounded badly that he gave up the ghost. At first I thought he was gonna come back to life. But it dawned on me that he wouldn't when the cast of the movie started popping up on the screen.
I sat there confused and shocked. Like I thought heroes don't die in movies and only villains do. Tears poured down my eyes and I couldn't eat that night. I literally cried.
Not until another day I saw my movie hero In another movie. It was when I had to ask how possible it was. And I was told that movies are fiction except for a few that are acted to replicate a person's life.
That's a life experience I wouldn't forget so easily that when I remember it these days, I laugh. That's a beautiful memory. How fragile a kids mind can be.
Movies are my way of relaxing and if we're to be good friends tell me about good movies.
