So last weekend I went to the Cinema to see a movie. At first I had a Nollywood movie with the name brotherhood in mind. I've read and heard a lot of reviews from people about the movie, so I didn't want to be on the side that hadn't seen the movie. Also since it wasn't out yet for download or on streaming services. I decided to go see the movie at the cinemas myself.
Getting there I was told that I was late for the movie as the movie had started hours ago. I was angry and disappointed at first but the asked that I see the woman king instead as it was the next movie streaming in the next few minutes. I contemplated a lot if I should see the movie. Normally I don't fancy movies with epic settings but the attendant at the Cinema told me that if I saw the movie and didn't like it, she would refund me my money. So I made up my mind and agreed to see it. I had no idea this movie would elicit such strong feelings in me. It's a triumphant triumphant story. The cast was fantastic. Viola, 56, was an inspiration in the film. This is a fantastic production.
My opinion I entered the theater not knowing what to expect. But I was blown away by this film. It was fantastic. I can't stop thinking about Viola Davis, the actress. She absolutely nailed her role.
The Woman King was fantastic! From start to finish, their performance was spectacular. The storyline's contra Versant is all smoke and mirrors. It is an absolute must-see! We should sell out every theater in the country, just like we did for Black Panther.
In one film, there are so many layers of history, strength, tragedy, and heroism. Feminine power, inter-tribal conflict, and colonial imperialism are elevated to epic proportions, resulting in intense emotional drama. I was filled with pride, rage, grief, and joy all at once.
I felt sad in the movie when one of Nansica's lieutenants lost her life trying to escape captivity. And the highlight of the movie for me was the final battle where Nansica had sneaked out the palace and was heading to rescue her daughter and other warriors had to join her. It showed unity.
Concerning the film The film, loosely based on actual historical events, focuses on the kingdom of Dahomey, one of West Africa's most powerful states in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Agojie, an all-woman army led by a formidable general, Nanisca, protects the King (John Boyega) and his considerable fortune (a magnificent, battle-weary Viola Davis). General Nanisca (Oscar winner Viola Davis) prepares the next generation of recruits for battle against an enemy determined to destroy their way of life.
Cast
Nanisca is played by Viola Davis. A battle-scarred Agojie general: tough, disciplined, and on high alert for any sign of attack from their old foe, the Oyo empire.
She was concerned that the new king, Ghezo (John Boyega), who had deposed his brother in a coup, was not paying enough attention to these matters.
Nanisca's loyal lieutenants Izogie (Lashana Lynch) and Amenza (Sheila Atim) were loyal to the core.
And then there was Nawi (Thuso Mbedu), who had been effectively dumped in the military by an enraged father due to her refusal to marry. Nanisca is strangely preoccupied with the new hothead recruit.
There were also two Brazilian aristocrat slavers who came to their country, always on the lookout and eager to exploit the warring factions who each wish to sell off their prisoners of war into slavery, Nawi is to mature as a warrior and make a terrible discovery about her past.

The Woman King receives a 9/10 review from me. I've never seen a movie more than once in a theater. I will definitely return to watch this again! Totally brilliant!!! I was thoroughly entertained and would recommend this film to anyone. It has definitely piqued my interest in learning more about the Agoji warriors.
