Hace mucho tiempo que ví está serie y apesar de lo mucho que me gustó la historia y su ejecución, no había querido hablar de la misma por razones que honestamente hasta ahora no entiendo 🤣, el patinaje artístico sobre hielo es un tema que a mi me encanta, de hecho toda la vida quise tener la oportunidad de practicarlo pero la cultura tropical de mi país no hace que este deporte sea tan famoso, por lo cual las pistas de patinaje sobre hielo son casi inexistentes aquí en Venezuela (no digo nulas porque tengo conocimiento de que en Caracas sí hay), sin embargo esto no hizo que mi gusto por dicho deporte menguara por lo que me encanta ver proyectos de películas o series con dicha temática, y resulta que justamente ésta serie de la que les hablaré hoy hace una mezcla casi perfecta de éste tema y mi profesión, y justo sobre esto te voy a detallar a continuación ⛸️✨.
A long time ago I saw this series and despite how much I liked the story and its execution, I had not wanted to talk about it for reasons that honestly until now I do not understand 🤣, figure skating on ice is a subject that I love, in fact all my life I wanted to have the opportunity to practice it but the tropical culture of my country does not make this sport so famous, so the ice skating rinks are almost nonexistent here in Venezuela (I don't say null because I know that in Caracas there are), however this did not make my taste for the sport diminish so I love to watch film projects or series with this theme, and it just so happens that this series that I will talk about today makes an almost perfect blend of this theme and my profession, and just about this I am going to detail below ⛸️✨.
Estrenada el 1ero de Enero del 2020, ésta producción de Netflix contó con Samantha Stratton como creadora y productora ejecutiva de la misma y con la actriz Kaya Scodelario como personaje principal de la historia. En éste drama sobre patinaje artístico, nos cuentan la historia de la joven y talentosa Kate Baker, quien después de sufrir una caída bastante fuerte y que le deja una lesión importante, debe alejarse momentáneamente del mundo del patinaje sobre hielo, y en su retorno vivir las consecuencias emocionales que ha dejado dicha situación y las cuales la llevan a tener que unirse Justin Davis (Evan Roderick) para poder continuar con su sueño de llegar a las olimpiadas, sin embargo todo este nuevo proceso de adaptación y competencia pone en riesgo un secreto que ella ha guardado durante toda su vida. Spinning Out fue cancelada en Febrero del mismo año.

Empecemos hablando del personaje principal y su familia, no sé si lo que estoy por decir sea spoiler o no pero lo diré porque me parece relevante para poder contar varías cosas, y es que el gran secreto que guarda Kate es que tanto ella como la mamá están diagnosticadas con Trastorno de Bipolaridad, y en base a este aspecto giran muchos elementos importantes de la trama, como por ejemplo el maltrato físico y la presión psicológica que ejerce la mamá de Kate (January Jones) sobre Kate y su hermana Serena (Willow Shields), y es que durante la serie nos dejan ver que la relación de Kate y su mamá está sumamente fracturada por todo lo antes mencionado, y aunque ambas están siendo medicadas, su mamá suele dejar su medicación y en estos lapsos de tiempo tomar actitudes bastante hostiles así como decisión poco prudentes. La verdad es que la historia de la mamá de Kate es bastante compleja y creo que poco se cuenta de ella, lo único que muestran es que al igual que Kate, ella en su juventud también era una talentosa patinadora pero luego del nacimiento de Kate se ve obligada a dejar sus sueños, por lo que dicha frustración de alguna forma la intenta proyectar hacía sus hijas exigiéndoles que sean las mejores.
Let's start talking about the main character and her family, I don't know if what I'm about to say is a spoiler or not but I'll say it because it seems relevant to tell several things, and is that the big secret that Kate keeps is that both she and her mother are diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, and based on this aspect turn many important elements of the plot, For example, the physical abuse and psychological pressure that Kate's mother (January Jones) exerts on Kate and her sister Serena (Willow Shields), and during the series we see that Kate and her mother's relationship is extremely fractured by all of the above, and although both are being medicated, her mother often leaves her medication and in these periods of time takes quite hostile attitudes and unwise decisions. The truth is that Kate's mother's story is quite complex and I think little is told about her, the only thing they show is that like Kate, in her youth she was also a talented skater but after Kate's birth she is forced to give up her dreams, so that frustration somehow she tries to project it onto her daughters demanding them to be the best.
Kate es claramente una patinadora talentosa, lo dejan ver y hacen mención constantemente de ello, estaba en ascenso directo como patinadora solista y justo ocurrió el accidente, el cual no solo dejó lesiones físicas sino también emocionales, para Kate el regresar al patinaje representa recordar esos minutos o segundos antes de su caída y con ello todo el proceso que pudo llevar su recuperación, y es eso lo que la asusta en gran medida al punto que para poder retomar su carrera de alguna forma se ve obligada a tener que ahora patinar en pareja, lo cual representa un gran reto pues al tener 21 años se hace más complicado adaptarse a ésta nueva forma de trabajar. Con respecto a su trastorno, durante gran parte de la serie vemos a una Kate bastante responsable con su tratamiento, sin embargo nos muestran que un año atrás había tenido una recaída donde tomó decisiones que no la enorgullecen, y es justo cuando la presión de la competencia está sofocandola, que vemos una nueva recaída en la cual descubre que sin su medicamento logra tener la energía suficiente para poder entrenar con mas frecuencia y mayor precisión.

With respect to her disorder, during most of the series we see a Kate who is quite responsible with her treatment, however we are shown that a year ago she had a relapse where she made decisions that she was not proud of, and it is just when the pressure of competition is suffocating her, that we see a new relapse in which she discovers that without her medication she has enough energy to be able to train more frequently and with greater precision.
Y justamente unos de los aspectos que me gusta tanto de ésta serie es la manera en que muestran el trastorno bipolar, éste tipo de trastorno afectivo se caracteriza por presentar un estado maníaco y consecutivamente un estado depresivo (o viceversa, pero realmente es maa común el primero), tal cual una montaña rusa donde todo lo que sube termina bajando, y justamente el último detalle del párrafo anterior es clave dentro de los episodios maníacos, y es el exceso de energía donde la persona literalmente siente que se puede comer el mundo en cuestión de segundos, o al menos esas son las características que muestran del caso específico de Kate, donde además se le acompaña la toma compulsiva de decisiones y el escaso reconocimiento de emociones verdaderas, después de un desborde excesivo de energía viene el bajon emocional, que también lo muestran en Kate pero además muestran las consecuencias que conllevan estas recaídas, tanto para ella como para quienes la rodean, y a esto además le acompaña el tono de la serie, es decir mientras vemos el episodio maníaco nos presentan un ritmo frenético y con colores un tanto vivos, y al llegar el momento depresivo el ritmo afloja y el tono cambia a algo mas lento, cada uno de estos detalles personalmente hicieron que está serie me gustara mucho, pues en líneas generales es un buen planteamiento.
And precisely one of the aspects that I like so much about this series is the way in which they show bipolar disorder, this type of affective disorder is characterised by presenting a manic state and consecutively a depressive state (or vice versa, but the former is really more common), just like a roller coaster where everything that goes up ends up going down, and precisely the last detail of the previous paragraph is key in manic episodes, and it is the excess of energy where the person literally feels that he/she can eat the world in a matter of seconds, or at least those are the characteristics that show the specific case of Kate, where she is also accompanied by compulsive decision making and little recognition of true emotions, after an excessive overflow of energy comes the emotional slump, which is also shown in Kate but also shows the consequences that these relapses entail, both for her and for those around her, And this is also accompanied by the tone of the series, that is to say, while we see the manic episode we are presented with a frenetic rhythm and with somewhat vivid colours, and when the depressive moment arrives the rhythm slows down and the tone changes to something slower, each one of these details personally made me like this series a lot, because in general terms it is a good approach.
Aunque hace un tiempo que vi ésta serie, si recuerdo que algunas de las cosas que no me habían gustado era el poco desarrollo o contexto que le dieron a ciertos aspectos, por ejemplo nunca nos explican las razones que llevaron a Kate a su primera recaída, o sea no queda claro si fue a causa de lo sucedido luego del accidente o si fue debido a la presión vivida antes del accidente, y creo que fue una desarrollo que debió darse, sin embargo el principal hecho que me indirectamente me desagrada de ésta serie, es el haber sido cancelada con tan poco tiempo de haberse estrenado, y justamente esa cancelación fue la que no permitió el desarrollo de ciertas historias, personajes y las mejores de algunos aspectos, el cancelarla dejo la historia sin concluir y obviamente eso siempre deja elementos abiertos y con escasa información, hay personajes que personalmente no me terminaron de caee bien, pero que tenian potencial para seguir siendo desarrollados, sin embargo nada de esto realmente se dará.
Although some time ago I saw this series, I remember that some of the things I didn't like was the little development or context that they gave to certain aspects, for example they never explain the reasons that led Kate to her first relapse, it is not clear if it was because of what happened after the accident or if it was due to the pressure experienced before the accident, and I think it was a development that should have been given, however the main fact that I indirectly dislike about this series, is the fact that it was cancelled so soon after the premiere, and precisely that cancellation was the one that did not allow the development of certain stories, characters and the best of some aspects, the cancellation left the story unfinished and obviously that always leaves elements open and with little information, there are characters that I personally did not end up liking, but that had potential to continue being developed, however none of this will really happen
