Based on a story by Robert Heinlein (one of the best science fiction authors of the golden age), Predestination intelligently exploits time travel with a story without much visual paraphernalia but with a plot that is showing us drop by drop until reaching an unbridled climax in the final minutes.
There are many ways to tell the plot of this film, from the end to the beginning or from beginning to end, however, I want to be faithful to how the events happen in this work.
The film begins with the arrival of a quite androgynous man at a bar and who begins to have a curious conversation with the bartender, the latter very interested in everything this guy says. The man begins with an interesting story about his life, the fact that he was a woman, excelled in subjects like physics and mathematics and was recruited for a women's space mission.
Basada en un cuento de Robert Heinlein (uno de los mejores autores de ciencia ficción de la era dorada), Predestination explota de una manera inteligente el viaje en el tiempo con una historia sin mucha parafernalia visual pero con una trama que se nos va mostrando gota a gota hasta llegar a un clímax desenfrenado en los últimos minutos.
Hay muchas maneras de contar la trama de esta película, desde el final hasta el principio o de principio a fin, sin embargo deseo ser fiel a como acontecen los sucesos en este trabajo.
La película comienza con la llegada de un hombre bastante andrógino a un bar y el cual empieza a tener una curiosa conversación con el bar tender, este último muy interesado en todo lo que dice este sujeto. El hombre empieza con un relato interesante acerca de su vida, el hecho de que fue una mujer, que sobresalía en materias como física y matemática y que fue reclutado para una misión espacial de mujeres.
The story seems to have come out of a drama, a difficult and lonely life, but then it turns with some plot holes that are solved little by little, making the puzzle more interesting.
This girl (in the present, a man) falls in love with a person and they have a son and it is at that moment that his life becomes complicated since when having the baby the doctors discover that he had male and female organs but the latter was removed by bleeding caused by childbirth, so the transformation process as a man was not voluntary.
El cuento parece salido de un drama, una vida difícil y solitaria pero luego se va tornando con unos huecos argumentales que se van resolviendo poco a poco haciendo el rompecabezas más interesante.
Este chica (en el presente un hombre) se enamora de una persona y tienen un hijo y es en ese momento en que la vida se le complica ya que al tener al bebe los médicos descubren que tenía órganos masculinos como femeninos pero estos últimos fueron removidos por el sangrado provocado por el parto, así que el proceso de transformación como hombre no fue voluntario.
The plot becomes convoluted and we can get lost a bit but having high expectations of how such a plot twist can be solved and believe me the directors did very well. In addition to offering a good science fiction film, they give us a good thriller that makes us fit pieces together while we watch the film.
We will see secret agencies like in the Fringe series, where people who do not have any family ties offer their service to the government, in this case, to prevent crimes by traveling in time (similar to Minority Report) and prevent terrorist events, as we can also witness a story of love without a doubt.
La trama se vuelve enrevesada y nos podemos perder un poco pero teniendo expectativas altas de cómo se puede resolver semejante giro argumental y créanme que los directores lo hicieron muy bien. Además de ofrecer un buen cine de ciencia ficción nos dan un buen thriller que nos pone a encajar piezas mientras vemos el film.
Veremos agencias secretas como en la serie Fringe, donde personas que no tienen ningún nexo familiar ofrecen su servicio al gobierno, en este caso para impedir crímenes viajando en el tiempo (parecido a Minority Report) y prevenir sucesos terroristas, como también podemos presenciar una historia de amor sin duda alguna.
The impressive puzzle lasts just over an hour and a half, without the need for special effects, with a perfectly executed chrono-history without any detail that can be escaped. The film is complete, a bit of drama at the beginning and then in the growing in action and suspense unfolds.
Although it is a movie with a well-made puzzle, it does not give rise to outlandish theories, it is concise, it seeks for the viewer to put all the pieces together without the need for strange theories or subjectivity, as a good science fiction film should be, objective and with a scientific basis.
There are no great time machines or technical details about space-time because the film is based on an alternative chronology, the past, present and future times stop making sense until we reach the end of the work and mentally we can rest not without feeling satisfaction to see such a good science fiction production.
El impresionante puzle dura poco más de hora y media, sin necesidad de efectos especiales, contando con una cronohistoria perfectamente ejecutada sin ningún detalle que se pueda escapar. La cinta es completa, un poco de drama al principio y luego en el in crecendo se desarrolla la acción y el suspense.
Pese a que es una película con un rompecabezas bien hecho no da pie a teorías estrafalarias, es conciso, busca que el espectador una todas las piezas sin necesidad de teorías raras o subjetividad, como un buen film de ciencia ficción debe ser, objetivo y con una base científica.
No hay grandes máquinas de tiempo ni detalles técnicos acerca del espacio tiempo porque la película se basa en una cronología alternativa, los tiempos pasado, presente y futuro llegan a dejar de tener sentido hasta que llegamos al final de la obra y mentalmente podemos descansar no sin sentir una satisfacción al ver una producción tan buena de ciencia ficción.
In this work it is more than demonstrated that a mega-production is not needed to create a great story, what if it is necessary is creativity, vision, and originality and although it is true that all the stories have already been told, the truth is that we can give our version and vision of what we already know without falling into clichés or clichés.
Time travel has been one of the most exploited topics in science fiction cinema and I must say that this film is not the only one that has developed an original plot in modern times, Coherence is another perfect example of it.

En este trabajo está más que demostrado que no se necesita de una mega producción para crear una gran historia lo que si hace falta es creatividad, visión y originalidad y si bien es cierto que todas las historias ya han sido contadas lo cierto es que podemos dar nuestra versión y visión de lo que ya conocemos sin caer en tópicos ni clichés.
Los viajes en el tiempo han sido uno de los tópicos más explotados en el cine de ciencia ficción y debo decir que esta película no es la única que ha desarrollado una trama original en tiempos modernos, Coherence es otro perfecto ejemplo de ello.
La ciencia ficción no se basa en rayos laser ni naves espaciales, la ciencia ficción es una manera de especular hacía un futuro posible, dándole credibilidad a través de teorías o hechos científicos. Es una manera de jugar con nuestra imaginación pero de una manera especulativa y con límites a diferencia del campo de la fantasía.
With all this I mean that there are many science fiction works that do not have a high budget but are true gems of the genre, offering us incredible stories, some with a lot of technical detail like Primer.
A highly recommended movie for any fan of the science fiction genre, it will not leave you disappointed.
Con todo esto quiero decir que hay muchas obras de ciencia ficción que no tienen un alto presupuesto pero son auténticas joyas del género, ofreciéndonos historias increíbles, algunas con mucho detalle técnico como Primer.
Una película altamente recomendada para cualquier fan del género de ciencia ficción, no los dejara decepcionados.
