Halloween Constest // Terror in Alien Covenant. Thus began the disaster! [Eng - Esp]

For several days I had pending to share my personal review of Alien Covenant, after having told you from my personal perspective of "Prometheus", today I will do the same with this sequel to the prequel to the historical saga of Alien (sounds a bit convoluted ha,ha,ha). Due to various occupations I had not completed this work and a few days ago, I saw the creation of the Halloween contest in this great community; so I adjusted what I already had and ready, I will do both things with a single post.

Desde hace varios días tenía pendiente compartir mi reseña personal sobre Alien Covenant, luego de haberles hablado desde mi perspectiva personal de "Prometheus", hoy haré lo propio con esta secuela de la precuela de la saga histórica de Alien (suena algo enredado ja,jas,ja). Por diversas ocupaciones no había completado este trabajo y hace unos días, vi la creación del concurso sobre el Halloween en esta gran comunidad; así que ajusté lo que ya tenía y listo, haré las dos cosas con un solo post.

As you all know, Alien is a movie that generated a lot of suspense, terror and horror in outer space; and that is something that I have always liked since I saw the pioneer of the saga, when I was a kid. I say this because lately, I have read mixed opinions about some installments, it is normal that many people do not like the famous xenomorph and the plots that have revolved around it, so in my previous post I opined that, it is not a film for all audiences, but rather, for those fans whose love keeps them faithful and expectant.

Como ya todos lo saben, Alien es una película en la que generó mucho suspenso, terror y horror en el espacio exterior; y eso es algo que siempre me ha gustado desde que vi la pionera de la saga, cuando era un chaval. Afirmo esto porque últimamente, he leído opiniones encontradas sobre algunas entregas, es normal que a muchas personas no les guste el famoso xenomorfo y las tramas que han girado en torno a éste, por eso en mi anterior publicación opiné, que no es una película todo tipo de público, sino que más bien, para esos fans cuyo amor los mantiene fieles y expectantes.

So, while it is true that it is a film based on the science fiction genre, it is also true that when watching it we can feel the fear in several of its presentations ha,ha,ha,ha. Undoubtedly in the covenant ship, technology reigns and the people who crew it, are the representation of futuristic man in the year 2104. When I saw it these days, I could not help but remember the advice of Professor Stephen Hawking, that human beings should explore and inhabit other planets, given our fragility and exposure to possible global tragedies.

Entonces, si bien es cierto que es un filme basado en el género de ciencia ficción, también es cierto que al observarla podemos sentir el miedo en varias de sus presentaciones ja,ja,ja. Indudablemente en la nave covenant, reina la tecnología y las personas que la tripulan, son la representación del hombre futurista en el año 2104. Al verla estos días, no pude evitar recordar aquel consejo del profesor Stephen Hawking, de que el ser humano debe explorar y habitar otros planetas, dada nuestra fragilidad y exposición a eventuales tragedias mundiales.

And that is precisely what these professionals do in their interstellar journey, expand life on other planets. This clarity in the central plot, is something I was grateful to the director Ridley Scott, because previously they released the action without mere explanations and had to watch again and again to catch the thread of the film (At least in my case). I remember my sisters didn't like Alien, because they were terrified of the creature that stalked humans; and because of its various defense systems, it made them look helpless.

Y precisamente es lo que hacen estos profesionales en su viaje interestelar, expandir la vida en otros planetas. Esta claridad en la trama central, es algo que le agradecí al director Ridley Scott, porque anteriormente soltaban la acción sin meras explicaciones y tocaba ver una y otra vez para coger el hilo de la película (Al menos en mi caso). Recuerdo que a mis hermanas no les gustaba Alien, porque les aterraba la criatura que acechaba a los humanos; y por sus diversos sistemas de defensa, los hacía parecer indefensos.

In covenant this premise is very well maintained, besides reminding me inevitably to lieutenant Ripley, the heroine of heroines in the world of cinema; but even this film had the right idea to show us some novelties in the enigmatic creature that bleeds the worst of acid substances; and a new way to acquire the alien parasite was shown to us. Something unprecedented and that also gave as a product a strange neomorph species, more similar externally to the human, but also more terrible than its predecessor.

En covenant se mantiene muy bien esta premisa, además de hacerme recordar inevitablemente a la teniente Ripley, la heroína de heroínas en el mundo del cine; pero incluso, esta cinta tuvo la acertada idea de mostrarnos algunas novedades en la enigmática criatura que sangra la peor de las sustancias ácidas; y es que una nueva manera de adquirir el parásito alienígena, nos fue mostrada. Algo inédito y que además dio como producto a una extraña especie neomorfa, más parecida externamente al humano, pero también más terrible que su antecesor.

If people are afraid of witches and ghosts, who would not feel a terrifying fear to know that a murderous and unstoppable creature is chasing you with the firm intention of using you as an incubator for its children, so a new creature will literally break your chest to go out and kill any living being that crosses its path. Undoubtedly, it is something that can give you nightmares for a long time; and the worst thing is that if someday we travel to unknown planets, we could find anything. Have you ever thought about it?

Si las personas temen a las brujas y fantasmas, quién no sentiría un miedo terrorífico al saber que una criatura asesina e indetenible, te persigue con la firme intención de utilizarte como incubadora de sus hijos, por lo cual una nueva criatura, literalmente romperá tu pecho para salir a matar cualquier ser vivo que se cruce en su camino. Sin duda es algo que te puede generar pesadillas por mucho tiempo; y lo peor del caso, es que si algún día viajamos hacia planetas desconocidos, podríamos encontrarnos con cualquier cosa ¿Alguna vez lo has pensado?

In addition to making us feel fear, suspense and terror; it can be a cause of anxiety when facing something unknown. To know a little of its cast, I have to fix my attention on the android David (Michael Fassbender), who gives me clear answers about how such a disaster began. And I say disaster to the fact that entire planets are devastated by the destructive nature of the aliens; so when I look closely at the proposal of covenant, I find in its content more than one answer, about the origin of this alien apocalypse.

Además de hacernos sentir miedo, suspenso y terror; puede ser motivo de ansiedad al enfrentar algo desconocido. Para conocer un poco de su elenco, tengo que fijar mi atención en en androide David (Michael Fassbender), quien me da respuestas claras de cómo inició tal desastre. Y digo desastre al hecho de que planetas completos quedan devastados por la naturaleza destructiva de los aliens; así que al ver con detenimiento la propuesta de covenant, encuentro en su contenido más de una respuesta, sobre el origen de este apocalipsis extraterrestre.

I find it very paradoxical that a group of scientists with so much knowledge and intelligence, change the plans they have established to follow a lost signal; I imagine that it is an implausible part of any film and that is its raison d'être; but in what head fits that, the brave Dr. Shaw reconstructed the guy who caused the death of Charlie Holloway, her fiancé. Or what was Maggie (Amy Seimetz) thinking when she opened the door of the scout ship, to board a Ledward (Benjamin Rigby) already infected with the deadly virus. Then we see security protocols broken, as if opening a bag of goodies.

Me parece muy paradójico que un grupo de científicos con tanto conocimiento e inteligencia, cambien los planes que han establecido para seguir una señal perdida; imagino que forma parte inverosímil de toda película y que es su razón de ser; pero en qué cabeza cabe que, la valiente Doctora Shaw reconstruyera al tipo que ocasionó la muerte de Charlie Holloway, su prometido. O que pensaba Maggie (Amy Seimetz) cuando abrió la puerta de la nave exploradora, para que abordara un Ledward (Benjamin Rigby) ya infectado con el virus mortal. Entonces vemos romper protocolos de seguridad, como si se tratase de abrir una bolsa de golosinas.

The aforementioned would be my only criticism and it is directed more towards the script than anything else. Katherine Watson's performance as Daniels is more than acceptable. This girl combines fragility, emotionality and bravery; besides having the balls to take command of a group of men who do not know what to do when faced with a beast of the characteristics described above. The biggest disappointment that can exist is to swim an entire ocean and then die on the shore, but that disappointment was the only promise of this great film production.

Lo anteriormente mencionado, sería mi única crítica y va dirigida más hacia el guion que cualquier otra cosa. La actuación de Katherine Watson como Daniels, es más que aceptable. Esta chica combina fragilidad, emotividad y valentía; además de tener los cojones de tomar el mando, de un grupo de hombres que no saben qué hacer ante una bestia de las características antes descritas. La decepción más grande que pueda existir, es nadar un océano entero para luego morir en la orilla, pero esa decepción era la única promesa de esta gran producción cinematográfica.
