Today I Reminisced the Magnificent Effects of Total Recall.
Hello my friends of the cinephile community, today I lived a great experience reliving great moments with a film that is more than 30 years old, specifically is about to turn 32 and it is the movie "Total Recall", whose name for Spanish America was "El Vengador del Futuro"; and although there is a clear difference between one title and another, represents one of the productions with the best special effects of the time, that golden decade of cinema and in which we could see the film without cuts in its strongest scenes.

Hola mis amigos de la comunidad cinéfila, hoy viví una gran experiencia al revivir grandes momentos con una cinta que tiene más de 30, específicamente está por cumplir 32 y se trata de la película “Total Recall”, cuyo nombre para Hispanoamérica fue “El Vengador del Futuro”; y aunque hay una clara diferencia en entre un título y otro, representa una de las producciones con los mejores efectos especiales de la época, aquella década dorada del cine y en la que podíamos ver la película sin cortes en sus escenas más fuertes.

I only saw it on TV in the 90's, but every time it was on the program, I did not hesitate to watch it, in fact yesterday I saw it again, although nowadays they always cut the bloodiest excerpts hahaha.
Dirigida por el holandés Paul Verhoeven, la considero una gran mezcla de estilos, donde lo preponderante es la acción de principio a fin, el argumento es maravilloso y aunque está basada en las ideas de un relato escrito de los años 60, tiene matices en su trama, que la hacen espectacular. Solo la vi por TV por aquellos años 90, pero cada vez que la colocaban en la programación, no dudaba en verla, de hecho ayer la volví a ver, aunque actualmente siempre le cortan los extractos más sangrientos jajaja.
At first everything seems simple, in a city in the year 2084, a strong guy who works in construction, begins to have the strange idea of traveling to the planet Mars and occasionally gets an offer from a travel agency that implants a type of vacation in their memories. All this in the 90's was unimaginable, we were talking about something truly futuristic, but also very crazy hahaha. The truth is that the character is launched without much thought.
En un principio todo parece sencillo, en una ciudad del año 2084, un tipo fuerte que trabaja en la construcción, comienza a tener la extraña idea de viajar al planeta Marte y ocasionalmente se consigue con una oferta, por parte de una agencia de viajes que implanta un tipo de vacaciones en sus recuerdos ¿A quién se le habría ocurrido tan brillante idea? Todo esto en los años 90 resultaba algo inimaginable, estábamos hablando de algo verdaderamente futurista, aunque también muy loco jajaja. Lo cierto es que el personaje se lanza sin pensarlo mucho.
The character of Douglas Quaid and Carl Houser is masterfully played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and the rest of the cast is more than remarkable, with the beautiful Sharon Stone and one of the antiheroes par excellence of the 90's, Michael Ironside whose boss and leader of the bad guys, Vilos Cohaagen, is played by the historic Ronny Cox, who with his presence alone, embellishes every intervention in the film. One of the scenes that I like the most, and that I repeated it ad nauseam, is the one with Quaid in the emblematic seat of the "Memories" agency.
El personaje de Douglas Quaid y Carl Houser, está interpretado magistralmente por Arnold Schwarzenegger y el resto del reparto es más que notable, con la hermosa Sharon Stone y uno de los antihéroes por excelencia de los 90, Michael Ironside cuyo jefe y líder de los chicos malos, Vilos Cohaagen, lo encarna el histórico Ronny Cox, quien con su sola presencia, engalana cada intervención en la cinta. Una de las escenas que más me gusta y que la repetí hasta el cansancio, es la de Quaid en el emblemático asiento de la agencia “Recuerdos”.
From the unexpected experience of Quaid in the travel agency, is that the viewer is placed in the amazing plot of the film, it is true that it was something repetitive about the chase and that everyone wanted to kill the protagonist, but this time there were different nuances, Douglas did not know who he really was and gradually was discovering it, plus the irresponsible Dr. Bob to explain to his client the type of adventure to implement (all a commercial package hahaha), makes us a brief and innocent spoiler of the film.
partir de la inesperada experiencia de Quaid en la agencia de viajes, es que el espectador se va ubicando en la asombrosa trama de la película, es cierto que era algo repetitivo lo de la persecución y que todos querían matar al protagonista, pero esta vez habían matices diferentes, Douglas no sabía quién era en realidad y poco a poco fue descubriéndolo, además el irresponsable Dr. Bob al explicarle a su cliente el tipo de aventura a implantar (todo un paquete comercial jajaja), nos hace un breve e inocente spoiler del filme.
Well if the plot had already completely captured my attention, let alone the details provided by the special effects, the technology for the early 90's was fascinating, that of computers, the classic radiographic image at the airport and of course, the biological costume of a corpulent woman whose head talks and explodes, was then the creation of one of the biggest Hollywood icons, paraphrasing a little, we were implanted that memory of futuristic film, which today remains fresh and totally valid with the passing of the years.
Bueno si la trama ya había captado por completo mi atención, ni hablar de los detalles que aportaban los efectos especiales, lo tecnológico para inicio de los 90 era fascinante, aquello de las computadoras, la clásica imagen radiográfica en el aeropuerto y por supuesto, el disfraz biológico de mujer corpulenta, cuya cabeza habla y explota, fue entonces la creación de uno de los mayores íconos de Hollywood, parafraseando un poco, nos implantaron aquel recuerdo de película futurista, que hoy sigue fresco y totalmente vigente con el pasar de los años.

The twist that no one expected, is that now Quaid was able to create bonds of friendship with the oppressed people of that place, that is, the memory implanted in Hauser takes over the situation and begins to rewrite the facts. Is he betraying himself? I don't think so, rather I see it as an awakening, to help those who need it.
Al ver a Hauser hablarse a sí mismo en una grabación, la cabeza me dio vueltas jajaja; el tipo tiene que viajar a otro planeta y estando allá, descubre que se ha auto utilizado, en complicidad con el malvado Cohaagen, de quien es íntimo amigo. El vuelco que nadie esperaba, es que ahora Quaid pudo crear lazos de amistad con las personas oprimidas de aquel lugar, es decir, el recuerdo implantado a Hauser se adueña de la situación y comienza a reescribir los hechos. ¿Se traiciona a sí mismo? Creo que no, más bien lo veo como un despertar, para ayudar a quien lo necesita.
Other themes that amazed me, was the creation of Kuato's character, the leader of the rebels was very well hidden and was not a military warrior, he was a kind of psychic hidden inside another person "fascinating and surprising". And if that wasn't enough, we had that millenary structure that released oxygen for the whole planet, the image of the activation with the hand is also representative of this film. So the director gave us a very complete menu, to enjoy it to the fullest and without wasting anything.
Otros temas que me causaron asombro, fue la creación del personaje de Kuato, el líder de los rebeldes estaba muy bien escondido y no era un guerrero militar, era una especie de psíquico oculto dentro de otra persona “fascinante y sorpresivo”. Y por si fuera poco, teníamos aquella milenaria estructura que liberaba el oxígeno para todo el planeta, la imagen de la activación con la mano también es representativa de este filme. Así que el director nos regaló un menú muy completo, para disfrutarlo a plenitud y sin desperdiciar nada.

El vengador del futuro, ciertamente fue a tomar venganza luego de recuperar la totalidad de sus recuerdos, siendo capaz de cambiar el estado de injusticia y abuso por parte de los villanos. Y aunque el remake del año 2012 fue un cúmulo de elementos tecnológicos, propios de una nueva era computarizada. No obstante, la presencia física de Arnold nos hace más creíble a un Quaid que noquea a cualquiera y tiene la fuerza suficiente, para romper las cintas de seguridad de ambas sillas de implante. Total Recall me ha hecho soñar de nuevo y la considero insuperable, después de tres décadas.
