Kingsman: The Golden Circle Movie Review

Review by @laqsking · 3168d · of Kingsman: The Golden Circle

kingsman__the_golden_circle_by_laurenceandrewpage-dbj6ocf.jpg Kingsman: The Golden Circle is the sequel to 2014's popular Kingsman: The Secret Service. Like the first one, it's an extremely violent, over-the-top action movie with comedy elements. This time around, though, there's a bit more empathy, and more value is placed on human life. Intense action violence includes tons of gun use/shooting, martial arts fighting, punching, kicking, knives/stabbing, explosions, car chases, blood spurts, dead bodies, and much more. Language is also strong, with many uses of "f--k," "s--t," and more. On the sex front, there's a scene in which a woman offers to let a man pee on her; he then inserts his fingers (and a tracking device) under her panties and -- it's implied -- inside her. The main villain is a drug dealer, and all drug users are threatened with death. Pot and meth are seen, and there's plenty of social drinking, sometimes to excess. Colin Firth, Channing Tatum, and Taron Egerton co-star.

The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn, British director, scriptwriter and producer who began his career in the world of cinema with his friend Guy Ritchie with whom he achieved Lock & Stock (1998), a black thriller and comedy that reached a lot success. Thanks to the success of this work, both filmmakers released Snatch. (2000), another successful film with a criminal theme and choral distribution, about gangsters and robberies in which they appeared, among others, Brad Pitt, Benicio del Toro and Dennis Farina. A year later, Vaughn returned to work with Ritchie in the production of Mean Machine (2001), starring Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham, which was followed by the romantic comedy Swept Away (2002), with Madonna as the protagonist. His first foray into directing was with Layer Cake (2004), a gangster thriller starring Daniel Craig, Michael Gambon, Tom Hardy and actress and model Sienna Miller. His next work was an adventure and fantasy film called Stardust (2007), a family cinema that features a cast headed by Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro. Kick-Ass (2010), based on one of Mark Millar's comics, is an atypical superhero film made as a black comedy that became one of the greatest hits of the year. Vaughn was also responsible for writing the screenplay for The Debt (2010), a sober spy thriller starring Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington. He was also responsible for writing the script and directing X-Men: First class (2011), fifth installment of the "X-Men" film series based on the Marvel Comics characters. The film became a huge blockbuster earning $ 353 million worldwide. In addition, Vaughn has also collaborated in the making of the script and the production of X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), sixth installment of the saga and the most successful so far of the entire franchise.

WHAT'S THE STORY? In KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE, Eggsy (Taron Egerton) is attacked by a former trainee who manages to steal the Kingsman agency's secrets. Soon, missiles appear out of nowhere and destroy all their hideouts -- and most of the group's agents, as well. Only Eggsy, who was dining with his girlfriend, Princess Tilde (Hanna Alstrom), and her parents, and Merlin (Mark Strong) survive. A doomsday directive points them to the United States and the Kentucky stronghold of the Statesman, the American branch of the super-secret spy network, which is led by Champagne, aka "Champ" (Jeff Bridges). Eggsy and Merlin learn that the evil Poppy (Julianne Moore), who controls all of the illegal drugs in the world, has set out to kill all her customers via a deadly virus. Symptoms begin with a blue rash. Poppy's demand is the end of the war on drugs -- and if the U.S. president complies, she'll release the antidote to the virus. But when Princess Tilde comes down with the blue rash, Eggsy knows he must save the world in order to save her.
