Peter Rabbit Short Movie Review

Peter Rabbit is a live-action/animated movie based on Beatrix Potter's classic books and starring James Corden as the voice of Peter. However, it doesn't not have the same soft, pastel-like feel of the stories: there is a lot of frenetic action, including dangerous chases, attacks with weapons and traps, explosions and even death. Old Mr. McGregor dies on the screen, and it is said that Peter's parents are dead (his father was eaten in a cake).

There are also threats, arguments and tantrums, and in a moment the animals attack their human enemy with berries, knowing that they are allergic to them (they have a reaction and must treat themselves with an EpiPen).

The two main human characters (Rose Byrne and Domhnall Gleeson) fall in love and kiss once. Part of the buttocks of old Mr. McGregor is shown; Peter tries to put a carrot in the crack. A rooster talks about "fertilizing all those eggs" and then tries to be a good father to a bunch of chicks.

The language is generally mild, but includes words of insult such as "stupid", "idiot" and "imbecile"; a couple of quick scenes include references to drinking and the implication that a character is tall (the latter probably overlooks children's heads). The main characters make many dubious decisions, and everyone behaves quite badly until an apology at the end seems too little, too late. But they do learn some lessons about listening to others and the fact that there is enough love for everyone.

The film is directed by Will Gluck, writer, director and producer known for Easy A (2010), Friends with Benefits (2011), Annie (2014), Peter Rabbit (2018), and a series of television shows like The Michael J. Fox Show (2013). He runs the production company Olive Bridge Entertainment which has partnerships with Sony Pictures Entertainment and ABC Television Studios.

SYNOPSIS
