The Dark Tower is the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's hit book series. The novels tell the story of Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, who must travel across a desolate landscape in search of the Dark Tower, the key to saving his universe and every other universe. Doors between universes open up, causing young Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) to leave New York and join the Gunslinger in his decaying magical world. Meanwhile, Roland's nemesis the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) opposes them at every step. King's series is full of violence, horror, and action, so expect a lot of the same in this series. That likely means it will be best for mature teens who enjoy Westerns, fantasies, and adventures. Fans of the books should also note that this is rumored to be more of a sequel, rather than a direct adaptation of the series.
The film is directed by Nikolaj Arcel, a renowned writer and Danish screenwriter whose career in the film industry began in 2001, when he graduated in the Danish National Film School, and won the Jury Prize at the Munich Film Festival and the Grand Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival with his graduation film "Woyzcek's Last Symphony" (2001), which was also shown in the Locarno Festival in 2003, within the section Leopards of Tomorrow (Leopards of Tomorrow). A year later he wrote the screenplay for the film "KLATRETØSEN" (2002), which was a box office success in his country and won a Crystal Bear Special Mention at the Berlin Film Festival, in addition to participating in the Gijón International Film Festival within its section Enfants Terribles. Two years later he directed his first feature film Kongekabale (2004), a thriller of political intrigues that garnered numerous awards and nominations in various film festivals. A year later wrote of Fortabte Sjaeles Ø (2007), a film family and adventures that also garnered rave reviews. His next job was the romantic comedy Sandheden om maend (2010), which reflects on the discovery and true love. After this title Kongelig Affaere addressed in (2012), a romantic drama set in the 18th century whose plot focuses in the triangle formed by the King Christian VII of Denmark, the idealist and illustrated Johann Friedrich Struensee and the young Queen Caroline Mathilde. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Film not in the English language, won, among many other awards, two Silver Bears for best actor and best script at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The protagonist has started the search of a mythological building known as the Dark Tower which, according to legend, it is the union of all the universes. The plot unfolds in a universe similar to the Old West where elements of fantasy are present. The Dark Tower is a film adaptation of the homonymous novels by Stephen King. The charge of directing the project is Nikolaj Arcel ('a real issue'), and the screenplay by Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend).
