I would venture to say that 90% of those who have ever watched Pokémon in their lives have also seen this movie. I am sure it is part of many people's childhood.

Let's start with a brief summary for those who don't remember it very well. This was the first Pokémon movie. It was released on July 18, 1998, in Japan.

While doing some research before writing this blog, I discovered that this film was not originally intended for children. It turns out that several things were omitted from the Western version. Personally, I recommend watching it again, but in its original language with subtitles. You will notice that there are quite a few differences between the two versions.

For example, what they censored was a scene where Mewtwo's consciousness interacted with that of other experiments. It's certainly a very sad scene, and I can understand why it was removed.

Overall, it's a pretty emotional movie. We all remember the famous scene where Ash turns to stone and all the Pokémon cry, bringing him back to life with their tears. That really touches the soul of a 9- or 10-year-old child.
