One of the most epic, most famous edits in film history, a loose match cut, a match cut, insert opinion here, etc.

From our age of the ape, from basic tools, to our age of space travel, to advanced machinery.

I say "our" because that's the whole point; someone has been here. What is this monolith?

Stanley Kubrick is maybe the most genius fimmaker to ever live? Not saying he is my favorite, but dang this dude was sharrrp.

Written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke.

Saludos @Lionsuit !!!

2001 is in my top 5 films of all time, and that match cut is a big part of it!

As is the perfect use of Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra," evoking Nietzsche's concept of man evolving into superman.

And robots evolving into man. Long before the TV show, Westworld, suggested that robots may become as human as we are, Kubrick's Hal became as paranoid as any human, and broke our hearts singing "Daisy," in it's quest to stay conscious and alive.

I was lucky enough to see 2001 in 70mm at the Cinerama Dome, and omg, that final 15 minute psychedelic sequence! What a filmmaking genius Kubrick was! Mind blown! ;)
