I still have Inception on the brain, no surprise. It's never too long between viewings or the mental revisit. Such a well made film.

You could do a 60 hour discussion on just this movie, but one specifically well done technique that is quite interesting is the use of breaking glass as an audio motif.

At the start of the film this sound is nothing more than a sound, as Cobb retells the story of his wife's passing, entering their honeymoon suite, stepping on a wine glass--crack. We don't yet know the effects that this night would have on him, his heart, his mind.

Later Ariadne returns to Cobb's suite and steps on the wine glass--crack--and this time there is more danger, we see how Mal is Cobb's inner enemy in a sense, his mental or emotional demon to fight. She even comes at us with a broken wine glass as a weapon, visually underscoring the audio motif.

When we are attempting Mr. Charles at the hotel bar later and the wine glass cracks, the audience knows immediately what is happening. Cobb is starting to lose it. Look for his kids. Look for danger. Look out for Mal. Root for Cobb and the team.

A genius use of motif. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan.

Be well.
