Hitchcock. Master. Psycho. Masterpiece. One tool in particular that is well used here is foreshadowing.
As Marion is packing early in the film we can see past her through the room, into her bathroom, into her open shower to the showerhead. This is a simple visual plant that hints at what is to come. If you think it's a coincidence, remember that Hitchcock had this set built, so nothing is accidental in the layout.
Later as Marion arrives at the Bates Motel, she spots the sign through her windshield, and all at once we have "Bates," water, and a harsh repetitive stabbing motion from our windshield wipers.
There is more there, I'm sure, but these two small visual cues are a blast, as is the whole film.
