Hello my dear friends, today I am very excited because I am going to talk about the first movie of my favourite saga, it is "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", called in the United States "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" because they wanted to make it clear in the title that it was a work about magic. In the following post I will leave you a summary, my opinion and differences between the book and the movie, although I know there are not too many "Potterheads" (Harry Potter fans) here I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
Hola mis queridos amigos cinéfilos, hoy estoy muy emocionada porque me dispongo a hablarles de la primera película de mi saga favorita, se trata de «Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal», llamada en Estados Unidos «Harry Potter y la Piedra del Hechicero» ya que querían dejar claro en el título que se trataba de una obra acerca de magia. En el siguiente post les dejaré un resumen, mi opinión y diferencias respecto al libro y la película, aunque sé que no hay demasiados «Potterheads» (Fans de Harry Potter) aquí espero sinceramente que lo disfruten.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the first film in the saga, based on the novel of the same name written by J.K. Rowling, who requested that the entire cast be British as a way of supporting British talent. Chris Columbus directed the film.
Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal es la primera película de la saga, basada en la novela homónima escrita por J.K Rowling quien solicitó que todo el elenco fuese británico en su totalidad como una forma de apoyar el talento de su país. El encargado de la dirección fue Chris Columbus.

In the first scene of the film we meet three very important characters: Albus Dumbledore (Headmaster of Hogwarts School), Minerva McGonagall (Transfiguration teacher) and Rubeus Hagrid (the keeper of keys and grains at Hogwarts) who leave the baby Potter in front of the house of his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, who in later scenes, we can see with a rather hostile and cruel attitude towards poor Harry, in fact he doesn't even have a real room but a space in the cupboard under the stairs.
En la primera escena de la película encontramos a tres personajes muy importantes: Albus Dumbledore (Director del colegio Hogwarts), Minerva McGonagall (Profesora de Transformaciones) y Rubeus Hagrid (Guardabosques) quienes dejan al bebé Potter frente a la casa de sus tíos, los Dursley, a quienes en escenas posteriores, podemos ver con una actitud bastante hostil y cruel con el pobre Harry, de hecho ni siquiera cuenta con una habitación de verdad sino con un espacio en la alacena debajo de la escalera.
The first hint of magic that Harry Potter shows on screen appears in the scene at the zoo where his aunt and uncle take him and his cousin Duddley, who has a birthday that day. In the serpentarium, Harry discovers a Burmese boa that Duddley is pestering by banging on the glass to try to make the snake move. Harry then starts talking to the snake, telling it that he understands it perfectly, but to his surprise it talks back and he understands perfectly well what it is saying. When his cousin Dudders notices Harry interacting with the snake, he pushes him away and tries to get the animal's attention, but just like that, the glass disappears and Duddley falls into the snake's cubicle, but the snake escapes.
El primer indicio de magia que muestra Harry Potter en pantalla aparece en la escena del zoologíco al que sus tíos lo llevan junto a su primo Duddley quien está de cumpleaños. En el serpentario, Harry descubre una boa de Birmania a quien Duddley está molestando golpeando el vidrio para tratar de hacer que la serpiente se mueva. Harry entonces comienza a hablarle a la serpiente, diciéndole que la comprende perfectamente, pero para su sorpresa ella le responde y él entiende perfectamente lo que dice. Cuando su primo Dudders nota que Harry está interactuando con la serpiente, lo aparta de un empujón e intenta llamar la atención del animal, pero así como así, el vidrio desaparece y Duddley cae dentro del cubículo de la serpiente, aunque ésta se escapa.
Then Harry receives a letter from Hogwarts, but he doesn't understand who sent it or why, as he has never received any mail, but his aunt and uncle, who do know what it is about and know the boy's true condition, take the letter away from him, but every day he receives more and more of them and so Vernon Durseley decides it is time to leave town, So he takes the whole family to a secluded spot in the middle of the sea where they are later visited by Hagrid, the keeper of keys and grains at Hogwarts, who reveals to Harry his wizard status and berates the Dursleys for keeping such valuable information from him.
Luego Harry recibe una carta provenientes de Hogwarts, pero él no entiende quien las envía ni porqué, ya que jamás ha recibido correo, sin embargo sus tíos, quienes sí saben de que se trata y conocen la verdadera condición del pequeño, le quitan la carta, pero cada día recibe más y más de ellas y por lo tanto Vernon Durseley decide que es hora de marcharse de la ciudad, así que lleva a toda la familia a un lugar apartado en medio del mar donde más tarde reciben la visita de Hagrid, el guardabosque, quien es el que le revela a Harry su condición de mago e increpa a los Dursley por haberle ocultado una información tan valiosa.

The next day he goes with Harry to the magical side of London to buy everything he will need for school, he also discovers that he owns a fortune that his parents left him in the wizarding bank. Harry discovers that he is famous and Hagrid decides to tell him also who Voldemort is, and how he murdered his parents and tried to kill him, but then ended up disappearing, leaving only a lightning scar on his forehead. We then see the boy in his first meeting with the Weasley family as they prepare to cross the barrier on Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station, where they will catch the Hogwarts Express.
Al día siguiente se va junto a Harry hacia el lado mágico de Londres para comprar todo lo que necesitará en el colegio, también descubre que es dueño de una fortuna que sus padres le dejaron en el banco de los magos. Harry descubre que es famoso y Hagrid decide contarle además quien es Voldemort, y la forma en que asesinó a sus padres e intentó matarlo a él, pero luego terminó desapareciendo, dejándole solo una cicatriz en forma de rayo en la frente. Después vemos al chico en su primer encuentro con la familia Weasley cuando se preparan para cruzar la barrera del andén 9 y 3/4 en la estación de King's Cross, donde tomarán el expreso de Hogwarts.
On the train on the way to Hogwarts, Harry begins to talk to Ron, discovering more details about the magical world and without realising it, they start to lay the foundations of a beautiful friendship. He also meets Hermione Granger, a child of Muggles (people without magic), but she seems to be a bossy, know-it-all girl and they don't like her.
En el tren de camino a Hogwarts, Harry comienza a hablar con Ron, descubriendo más detalles sobre el mundo mágico y sin darse cuenta empiezan a sentar las bases de una bonita amistad. También conoce a Hermione Granger, una niña hija de muggles (personas sin magia) Pero ella parece ser una niña mandona y sabelotodo y por eso no les agrada.
When they are at Hogwarts Harry prepares for the house selection ceremony, as Hogwarts is made up of four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff and the way to select the students is through a hat which is their corresponding place. Harry doesn't want to go to Slytehrin because after meeting Draco Malfoy, an arrogant boy who despises Ron for being poor, he wants to belong to that house and according to some students, Slytherin is the house that has produced the most evil wizards and witches. The hat takes Harry's opinion into account and sends him to Gryffindor House.
Cuando ya están en Hogwarts Harry se prepara para la ceremonia de selección de las casas, ya que Hogwarts está conformado por cuatro casas: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw y Hufflepuff y la forma de seleccionar a los estudiantes es a través de un sombrero quien cual es su lugar correspondiente. Harry no quiere ir a Slytehrin porque después de conocer a Draco Malfoy, un niño arrogante que desprecia a Ron por ser pobre, quiere pertenecer a esa casa y según algunos estudiantes, Slytherin es la casa de la que han salido más magos y brujas tenebrosos. El sombrero toma en cuenta la opinión de Harry y lo envía a la casa Gryffindor.
From here Harry begins to experience many adventures such as when he, Hermione and Ron come face to face with a three-headed dog behind a door on the third floor, just the place that was forbidden to students, Harry is selected as a seeker on the school's quidditch (a magical sport) team, which is an exception, However, Professor McGonagall saw great talents in him, but one of the most significant adventures of the boy wizard was when, with the help of Ron, he defeated a mountain troll that had gotten into the castle, they did it to save Hermione and yet when they were discovered by the teachers, she blamed herself. This scene is very important because it marks the beginning of Ron and Harry's friendship with Hermione, in what we Potterheads know as "The Golden Trio".

However, when the teachers arrive in the bathroom to rescue them, Harry notices that Snape (his Potions teacher, whom he doesn't like at all) has injured his leg, something very important in the plot because the next day after Snape went to make sarcastic comments about Harry's first Quidditch match, he limps away, and Harry takes the opportunity to tell his friends about the wound he saw on the proffesor's leg, and begins to forge an elaborate hypothesis in which he claims that Snape brought the troll into the castle as a distraction to try to get into the room where the three-headed dog was, but when he got there he may have been attacked.
Sin embargo cuando los profesores llegan al baño a rescatarlos, Harry nota que Snape (su profesor de Pociones al que no le cae nada bien) está herido en la pierna, algo muy importante en la trama pues al día siguiente después que Snape fue a hacer comentarios sarcásticos a propósito del primer partido de quidditch de Harry, se aleja cojeando y en ese comento Harry aprovecha para comentarle a sus amigos acerca de la herida que vio en su pierna, y comienza a fraguar una elaborada hipótesis en la que afirma que Snape introdujo el troll al castillo como distracción para intentar entrar en la sala donde estaba el perro de tres cabezas, pero cuando llegó ahí tal vez fue atacado.
The hypothesis seems to be true when Harry is about to die during the match, as his broom starts to shake and he is about to fall to the ground, Hermione takes a pair of binoculars and notices that Snape is staring at Harry as he utters a few words, so she quickly goes to where the professor is and, staying hidden in the stands, conjures a small flame on his cloak to distract him, something that worked as Harry regained control of his broom and ended up winning the match.

When Harry, Ron and Hermione go to tell Hagrid what has happened and also tell him that Professor Snape is trying to steal what the dog is guarding, he tells them that Snape couldn't have done that because he is one of the guardians of what is there, and that it belongs to Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel.... that new name encourages the golden trio to search for more information, so on one occasion, when Harry tried to enter the library at night to investigate, under cover of the invisible cloak he received as a Christmas present, he discovered an argument between Professor Snape and Quirrel, the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Snape had him cornered and appeared to be threatening him.
Cuando Harry, Ron y Hermione van a contarle lo sucedido a Hagrid y también le dicen que el profesor Snape intenta robar lo que el perro custodia, él les dice que Snape no podría haber hecho eso porque él es uno de los guardianes de lo que se encuentra allí, y que pertenece a Dumbledore y a Nicholas Flamel... ese nuevo nombre alienta al trío de oro a buscar más información, así que en una ocasión, cuando Harry intenta entrar en la biblioteca de noche para investigar, amparado bajo la capa invisible que recibió como regalo de navidad, descubre una discusión entre el profesor Snape y Quirrel, el profesor de Defensa Contra las Artes Oscuras, Snape lo tenía acorralado y parecía estar amenazándolo .
After further research, Hermione discovers that Nicholas Flamel is the creator of the Philosopher's Stone, an alchemical substance that has magical properties that can grant immortality, and after another conversation with Hagrid, the children realise that the only way to tame the three-headed dog is through music. They try to warn Professor McGonagall that the stone is in danger as they think Snape is trying to help Voldemort steal it, but although she is surprised that the children know of the stone's existence, she dismisses their theory and so they try to enter the chamber on their own.
Después de más investigaciones, Hermione descubre que Nicholas Flamel es el creador de la piedra filosofal, una sustancia alquímica que tiene propiedades mágicas que pueden otorgar inmortalidad, y luego de otra conversación con Hagrid, los niños se dan cuenta de que la única manera de dominar al perro de tres cabezas es a través de la música. After the kids have effectively put the dog to sleep and overcome the other obstacles, Harry makes it to a final chamber where Professor Quirrel is revealed to be the real villain, he is the one who wants to steal the stone and he is also the one who tried to hex his broom during the match, Snape was only trying to help. Harry also discovers that the philosopher's stone is in his pocket and that Voldemort lives as a parasite on the back of Quirrel's head (who always wore a turban). Voldemort orders Quirrel to take the stone from Harry, but as soon as the boy touches it, he causes it to disintegrate.
Luego de que los chicos efectivamente lograron dormir al perro y vencer los demás obstáculos, Harry logra llegar hasta una última cámara donde está el profesor Quirrel y éste se revela como el verdadero villano, es él quien quiere robar la piedra y también fue él quien intentó hechizar su escoba durante el partido, Snape solo trataba de ayudar. Harry también descubre que la piedra filosofal está en su bolsillo y que Voldemort vive como un parásito en la parte posterior de la cabeza de Quirrel (que siempre llevaba un turbante) Voldemort le ordena a Quirrel quitárle la piedra a Harry, pero en cuanto el niño lo toca, hace que se se desintegre.
Finally, when Dumbledore visited Harry in the hospital wig, he explained that on the night his parents died, in an act of love, when his mother stood between him and Voldemort's killing curse, she granted him a protection that prevented him from killing him, and from then on he could not touch him without suffering the consequences.

Differences between the novel and the film

One of the biggest differences between the novel and the film is the meeting between Harry and Draco Malfoy, which in the film takes place at Hogwarts, but in the novel it was at Madame Malking (the robe shop in Diagon Alley).
Una de las mayores diferencias que hay entre la novela y la película es el encuentro entre Harry y Draco Malfoy que en la película sucede en Hogwarts, pero en la novela fue en Madame Malking (la tienda de túnicas del callejón Diagon)
At the first encounter Harry, Ron and Hermione had with the three-headed dog, Neville was also present.
En el primer encuentro que Harry, Ron y Hermione tuvieron con el perro de tres cabezas, Neville también estuvo presente.
One of the most significant differences has to do with the characterisation of the characters, Harry for example has green eyes, not blue like Daniel Radcliffe, however, although they tried to make him wear contact lenses, they could not achieve this because he could not tolerate them, Hermione in the literary version has slightly larger incisors than the rest but the dentures did not allow her to pronounce words well, Professor Snape's hair was greasy in the novel, Percy Weasley wore glasses, Ron had freckles and the Dursleys were blond, at least Petunia and Duddley.
Una de las diferencias más significativas tiene que ver con la caracterización de los personajes, Harry por ejemplo tiene ojos verdes, no azules como Daniel Radcliffe, sin embargo, aunque intentaron hacer que él usara lentes de contacto, no pudieron lograrlo porque él no los toleraba, Hermione en su versión literaria tiene los dientes incisivos ligeramente más grandes que el resto pero las prótesis dentales no le permitían pronunciar bien las palabras, el cabello del profesor Snape era grasoso en la novela, Percy Weasley usaba lentes, Ron tenía pecas y los Dursley eran rubios, al menos Petunia y Duddley.
The encounter Harry witnessed between Snape and Quirrel was not inside the castle, but in the Forbidden Forest.

But what I really regretted was that they had omitted Peeves, the polstergaist, an annoying spirit that always annoys Hogwarts students, especially the new ones. I would have loved to see him in the film version, even Crhis Columbus had decided to include him, in fact some scenes were filmed with him played by Rik Mayall, but they didn't survive the final cut of the film, however, in an interview, Crhis Columbus said that he wants the original 3 hour version of the film to be released in which Peeves' scenes would be included.
Pero lo que verdaderamente lamenté fue que hubiesen omitido a Peeves, el polstergaist, un molesto espíritu que siempre fastidia a los estudiantes de Hogwarts, en especial a los nuevos. Me hubiese encantado verlo en la versión cinematográfica, incluso Crhis Columbus había decidido incluirlo, de hecho se filmaron algunas escenas con él quien fue interpretado por Rik Mayall, pero no llegaron a sobrevivir al corte final de la película, sin embargo, en una entrevista, Crhis Columbus dijo que quiere que se publique la versión original de 3 horas de la película en la que estarían incluidas las escenas de Peeves.
Despite the changes and omissions, I was very satisfied with the final work, the performances were great and how could they not be when the adult cast was made up of a range of renowned and talented actors such as Alan Rickman (my favourite), Maggie Smith, Fiona Shaw, Richard Harris, Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane. Richard Harrys knew how to make the most of every resource and best of all they respected the decisions of J.K Rowlin (the author of the novels) who was involved in the scripts and even in the casting process of the children.
De verdad que a pesar de los cambios y omisiones yo quedé muy satisfecha con el trabajo final, las actuaciones estuvieron geniales y ¿cómo no? si el elenco adulto estuvo formado por una gama de actores de renombre y de gran talento como Alan Rickman (mi favorito) Maggie Smith, Fiona Shaw, Richard Harris, Julie Walters y Robbie Coltrane. Chris Columbus supo aprovechar cada recurso y lo mejor de todo fue que respetaron las decisiones de J.K Rowlin (la autora de las novelas) quien estuvo involucrada en los guiones y hasta en el proceso de selección de los niños actores
I think it goes without saying that I am a huge fan of this saga, of J.K Rowlin's work and of Warner Bros, I have the books and films of this magical universe and even though I have seen them so much that I can even recite the lines of all the characters, I will never get tired of watching them. Thank you very much for all your attention, see you another time.
Creo que está demás decir que soy una gran admiradora de esta saga, del trabajo de J.K Rowlin y de la Warner Bros, tengo los libros y películas de este universo mágico y a pesar de que las he visto tanto que puedo incluso recitar las líneas de todos los personajes, jamás me cansaré de verlas. Amigos muchas gracias por toda su atención, nos vemos en otra oportunidad.
