There are many Christmas films that I really love, but if I had to choose one among all of them, one that really touched my heartstrings, I would definitely choose "Love Actually" because it is not just a funny but linear story set at Christmas, it is about several separate stories in which the only protagonist is love in its various expressions, not just romantic love, but all kinds of love that exist.
Hay muchas películas navideñas que realmente me encantan, pero si tuviera que elegir una entre todas ellas, una que de verdad hubiese tocado las fibras de mi corazón, sin lugar a dudas escogería "Love Actually" ya que se sale de lo convencional, no es simplemente una historia graciosa pero lineal, ambientada en navidad, se trata de varias historias por separado en las cuales el único protagonista es el amor en sus diversas expresiones, no solamente el amor romántico, sino todos los tipos de amor que existen.
As I said before, love is the main character, and this film shows us the ways in which people deal with this feeling, this leads me to think that one of the stories that the film shows us seems to have no sense for the plot, I mean the one of Colin and the girls in United State, ie, his story has nothing to do with love 🤔, it is mere sexual attraction, he is a sex addict and that is all he is looking for, in fact he is willing to travel to the American continent in search of new sexual adventures that he cannot live in his own country because there no girl takes him into account at all 🤦.
Como dije anteriormente, el amor es el protagonista, y esta película nos muestra las formas en las que las personas lidian con este sentimiento, esto me lleva a pensar que una de las historias que nos muestra el film parece no tener sentido para la trama, me refiero a la de Colin y las chicas en Estados Unidos, es decir, su historia no tiene nada que ver con el amor 🤔, es mera atracción sexual, él es un adicto al sexo y eso es todo lo que busca, de hecho está dispuesto a viajar al continente americano en busca de nuevas aventuras sexuales que no puede vivir en su propio país porque allá ninguna chica lo toma en cuenta para nada 🤦♂.
John and Judy
This is the story that I found most curious among all the others because although both met while they were naked, working as stuntmen in adult films, between so many conversations they get to know each other more deeply and end up falling in love, this shows us that love can arise in any way and in any place, in the way you least imagine and without proposing it.
Esta es la historia que me pareció más curiosa entre todas las demás pues aunque ambos se conocieron mientras estaban desnudos, trabajando como dobles en películas para adultos, entre tantas conversaciones se van conociendo más a profundidad y terminan enamorándose, esto nos demuestra que el amor puede surgir de cualquier manera y en cualquier lugar, de la forma en que menos imaginas y sin proponértelo.
Sarah and Karl
At this point we find ourselves at a crossroads that shows us the reality that some people have to live with when they find the possibility of loving someone and letting themselves be loved, but this possibility is truncated by the enormous responsibility of taking care of someone who cannot look after himself. Sarah is in charge of her only brother who has mental problems, his condition is very demanding, which prevents Sarah from leading a normal life, but she does not think twice to choose to be with him over her own interests, because he is her priority, which shows us that brotherly love is something very, very important, after all, a person who wants to be with you at a certain time, tomorrow can leave if he wants to, but your family is always with you in good times and bad.
A este punto nos encontramos con una encrucijada que nos muestra la realidad que tienen que vivir algunas cuando encuentran la posibilidad de amar a alguien y de dejarse amar, pero esta posibilidad queda truncada por la enorme responsabilidad de encargarse de alguien que no puede valerse por sí mismo. Sarah está a cargo de su único hermano que tiene problemas mentales, su condición es muy demandante, lo que le impide a Sarah llevar una vida normal, pero ella no lo piensa dos veces para escoger estar con él por encima de sus propios intereses, debido a que él es su prioridad, lo que nos demuestra que el amor fraternal es algo de verdad muy pero muy importante, después de todo, una persona que quiera estar contigo en determinado momento, el día de mañana puede irse si así lo desea, en cambio tu familia siempre está contigo en las buenas y en las malas.
Sam and Daniel (Father and Son/Padre e hijo)
They show us what first love represents, the doubts that begin to arise at that age, a difficult age where everything that happens around us we feel more intensely, but at the same time the story shows us what paternal-filial love is, because we see how Daniel (Sam's father) begins to give him advice about love, even though his heart is broken due to the recent death of his wife, in this way we realise that the uncertainty that begins to arise in Sam's heart helps to strengthen the relationship that he has with his father, for this reason this seems to me one of the most tender stories of the film, because it shows us that the love from parents to children is the first that we feel in our lives.
Ellos nos muestran lo que representa el primer amor, las dudas que comienzan a surgir a esa edad, una edad difícil donde todo lo que sucede a nuestro alrededor lo sentimos con mayor intensidad, pero al mismo tiempo la historia nos muestra lo que es el amor paternofilial, porque vemos como Daniel (el padre de Sam) comienza a darle consejos sobre el amor, a pesar de que su corazón está roto debido a la reciente muerte de su esposa, de esta forma nos damos cuenta de que la incertidumbre que comienza a surgir en el corazón de Sam ayuda a fortalecer la relación que él tiene con su padre, por esta razón esta me parece una de las historias más tiernas de la película, porque nos indica que el amor de padres a hijos es el primero que sentimos en nuestras vidas.
David and Natalie
David is nothing more and nothing less than the British Prime Minister, Natalie is his secretary, both characters are very different in personality, he is very formal, with stiff manners due to his profession, and she is very enthusiastic and carefree, so much so that she constantly blurts out swear words, But the best thing about this couple is that they discover over time that they love each other enough to not allow conventionalisms to separate them, true love does not understand politics, nor formalities and itineraries, their story allows us to understand that all people, regardless of their position in life or the jobs they have, have feelings and these cannot be ignored.
David es nada más y nada menos que el primer ministro británico, Natalie es su secretaria, ambos personajes son muy diferentes en personalidad, él es muy formal, de modales acartonados debido a su profesión, y ella es muy entusiasta y despreocupada, tanto que constantemente se le escapan groserías, pero lo mejor de esta pareja es que descubren con el tiempo que se aman lo suficiente como para no permitir que los convencionalismos los separen, el amor verdadero no entiende de política, ni de formalidades e itinerarios, su historia nos permite entender que todas las personas, sin importar su posición ante la vida o los trabajos que desempeñen tienen sentimientos y estos no se pueden ignorar
Jamie and Aurelia
Their story teaches us that there should be no barriers to love, if there is chemistry between them it doesn't matter if they speak the same language, they will always find a way to communicate. Jamie, who was heartbroken after the death of his wife, finally accepts that his heart has returned to beat for someone else, and when he realises how important Aurelia really is to him, he dedicates himself to learning Portuguese with the intention of finding her and asking her to marry him, the proposal scene is one of the funniest in the whole film and at the same time one of the most emotional, as it shows us that nothing is impossible for love. You can tell that Colin Firth worked hard to make these dialogues, and although his pronunciation is not perfect, this brought more realism to the plot because no one who learns a new language ends up speaking like a native, he really did a great job.
Su historia nos enseñas que no deberían existir barreras para el amor, si existe química entre ambos poco importa si hablan el mismo idioma, siempre encontrarán la forma de comunicarse. Jamie, quien tenía el corazón roto luego de la muerte se su esposa, finamente acepta que su corazón ha vuelto a latir por alguien más, y cuando comprende lo importante que realmente es Aurelia para él, se dedica a aprender portugués con la intención de buscarla y pedirle matrimonio, la escena de la propuesta es una de las más divertidas de toda la película y al mismo tiempo una de las más emotivas, ya que nos muestra que para el amor nada es imposible. Se nota que Colin Firth trabajó mucho para poder hacer estos dialogos, y aunque su pronunciación no es perfecta, esto le aportó mayor realismo a la trama pues nadie que aprenda un idioma nuevo termina hablando como un nativo, de verdad él hizo un grandioso trabajo.
Harry and Karen
Their story shows us how terrible it is to experience the betrayal of a loved one, it reminds us that not all stories have happy endings or see life as rosy. Harry and Karen are a seemingly happy couple, they have everything they need and apparently they are a happy family, however Harry began to feel a very strong but apparently fleeting attraction for his secretary, Karen realizes this and obviously suffers a lot to feel betrayed, this leads us to reflect a lot as viewers and to ask ourselves several questions ... Is it really worth sacrificing your happiness for an ephemeral emotion? If we were in Karen's place, would we be willing to hide our feelings? Even with all the sadness of the plot, there is one scene in the film that still makes me laugh to this day, when Harry goes to buy a necklace for his secretary (behind his wife's back) but the shop assistant (Rowan Atkinson) takes too long wrapping the gift in an absurd way.
Su historia nos muestra lo terrible que es experimentar la traición del ser amado, nos recuerda que no todas las historias tienen finales felices ni ven la vida color de rosa. Harry y Karen son una pareja aparentemente feliz, tienen todo lo que necesitan y aparentemente son una familia feliz, sin embargo Harry comenzó a sentir una atracción muy fuerte aunque aparentemente fugaz por su secretaria, Karen se da cuenta de ello y evidentemente sufre mucho al sentirse traicionada, esto nos lleva a reflexionar mucho como espectadores y a hacernos varias preguntas... ¿realmente vale la pena sacrificar tu felicidad por una emoción efímera? ¿Si estuviésemos en el lugar de Karen estaríamos dispuestos a ocultar nuestros sentimientos? Aun y con todo lo triste que resulta esta trama en la película hay una escena que hasta el día de hoy me da mucha risa, y es cuando Harry va a comprar un collar para su secretaria (a escondidas de su esposa) pero el dependiente de la tienda (Rowan Atkinson) se tarda demasiado envolviendo el regalo de forma absurda.
Juliet, Mark and Peter
Mark is madly in love with Juliet, his best friend's wife, imagine what that means, he doesn't want to betray his friend but at the same time he can't contain his feelings and needs to express them in some way, this leads us to one of the most beautiful, significant and iconic scenes of this film, it was such a beautiful scene that many films have copied it, in it we see Mark expressing his feelings to Juliet through posters, he does it not with the intention that she reciprocates his love, but simply to externalize the feelings that were choking him inside, it is a funny and original scene, but it also makes me sad to imagine how Mark must be feeling at that moment. I really loved Andrew Lincoln's performance.
De esta forma llegamos al tipo de amor que nadie quiere experimentar, el amor no correspondido, Mark está perdidamente enamorado de Juliet, la esposa de su mejor amigo, imagínense lo que eso significa, él no quiere traicionar a su amigo pero al mismo tiempo tampoco puede contener sus sentimientos y necesita expresarlos de alguna forma, esto nos lleva a una de las escenas más hermosas, significativas e icónicas de este film, fue una escena tan hermosa que muchas películas la han copiado, en ella vemos a Mark expresando sus sentimientos ante Juliet mediante carteles, lo hace no con la intención de que ella corresponda a su amor, sino simplemente por exteriorizar los sentimientos que lo ahogaban por dentro, es una escena divertida y original, pero que también me genera tristeza al imaginar como se debe estar sintiendo Mark en ese momento. De verdad amé la participación de Andrew Lincoln.
Billy Mack and Joe
But not to leave you with the bitter taste of unrequited love I bring you one of the most beautiful forms of love that exist and that is the love for friendship, the story of Billy Mack and Joe, his manager shows us that friends are the family that life gave us, It is not that Billy is an example of life for his fans, because he has a life full of excesses, however the most relevant of his story is that he really appreciates Joe's friendship, not the lights, the applauses and the praises of the people, but his best friend who has been with him in the good and in the bad times.
Pero para no dejarlos con el amargo sabor del amor no correspondido les traigo una de las formas de amor más hermosas que existen y es el amor por la amistad, la historia de Billy Mack y Joe, su representante nos demuestra que los amigos son la familia que la vida nos regaló, no es que Billy sea un ejemplo de vida para sus fans, pues tiene una vida llena de excesos, sin embargo lo más relevante de su historia es que de verdad aprecia la amistad de Joe, no las luces, los aplausos y los elogios de la gente, sino a su mejor amigo que ha estado con él en las buenas y en las malas.
Love Actually is a film that delves into the meaning of the different types of love that exist, that's why it's my favourite Christmas film, it helps us to reflect on this feeling and you can easily identify with any of its stories. Love actually es una película que profundiza en el significado del los diferentes tipos de amor que existen, por eso es mi película navideña favorita, nos ayuda a reflexionar sobre este sentimiento y fácilmente te puedes sentir identificado con cualquiera de sus historias.
