Greetings everyone and welcome to my blog, yesterday I decided to kill some time watching a movie that attracted my attention because of its title, since it is not so common for a woman to be a serial killer. So I said why not?

I think this is the first time I've seen a Hindi movie, which confused me a bit on several occasions, leading me to wonder if I didn't understand certain things because of the Indian culture or because of the movie's script.

But that's something I'll write about later, for now, I'll mention a few facts about the film:

A gynecologist is accused of committing a series of terrible murders of pregnant and unmarried women in the town. His wife, a faithful believer in his innocence, tries everything she can to help him, but no lawyer wants to defend him.

She finally finds one who is very fond of her husband and wants to help him. However, he is such a righteous lawyer (sarcasm) that he advises her that to prove Joy's innocence she must mimic the recent crimes. Being incarcerated, they will think the serial killer is still on the loose and must release him.

Convinced that her husband is being framed, Sona decides to do anything to free him, including trusting that this lawyer won't turn her upside down later.

This movie was so strange to me that I don't know where to start. Whether because of the plot, the script, the soundtrack or the performances. 😆

The first thing I must say is that this film began with a play of lights that I found interesting, because they gave a gloomy air to the atmosphere. However, Jacqueline's performance in the few minutes of this introduction was so changeable that I didn't know how to take her role.

On the one hand she looked like a psychopath and on the other hand a forced and not believable thing, what I hated the most of this brief entry was that long and senseless laugh that she showed us, and that monologue that has no reason to be and that we can check later, as the film is ending.

Similarly, Anushka leaves a lot to be desired as a character and I could tell right at the beginning of the film, although as the film progresses it becomes more pronounced.

We return to Jacqueline, or Sona, the gynecologist's wife, who displays a mentally ill expression just to announce that she is pregnant.

To me, it's clear that they wanted to direct attention to her because of the title of the film, so that viewers would think she was a psychopath and at times I came to think so, but this didn't work, because it wasn't something Sona maintained.

This is why I had a hard time connecting with her character, because in some moments she seemed like a normal woman worried about her husband, in others a psychopath and in the worst case a villain from a comedy movie: clumsy and even innocent.

¿Comedia?

The same with the script of this film, which shows us a policeman or a detective who breaks into Sona's house to steal evidence with which he manages to incriminate her husband, just like that, without any legal procedure.

It was this one of the things that led me to wonder if the legal processes were different in India 😆 because I seem to remember that obtaining evidence in a suspicious way sometimes makes it invalid or gets the detective in trouble.

We are not told why the detective is so sure that Sona's husband is the culprit, which I didn't think was fair, but after they try to make him look like the culprit who wanted to frame him out of jealousy (because he is Sona's ex) I already knew where this movie was going.

I began to understand why the detective began to look like the guilty one because of his performance or the dialogues of the other characters pointed him out as such and the gynecologist as the innocent one. Which is all backwards, but this has a function: that the viewer gets a surprise that never comes, because it is too predictable.

Another of the worst parts of the film is when Sona goes on the hunt for an unmarried, pregnant woman to murder.

Not only because he calls the only three pregnant women in town and the last one is his only hope that she is pregnant and single, which she is (almost), nor is it because this woman is his former student and current neighbor, nor is it because her boyfriend coincidentally decides to leave her upon learning of the pregnancy, making her the perfect target, but because this is the part where the... Comedy?

Sona shows her novice kidnapping skills, but it's not cruel or serious, it's comical. She even uses a liquid that says chloroform and is water against Anushka, which leaves the girl, a black belt in Taekwondo, at an advantage of pretending to be asleep.

At that moment the attacker goes to the car to look for who knows what, and Anushka, instead of fleeing, lies down and waits for him to chase him with somersaults and flying kicks, as if there was no possibility that the kidnapper would bring a weapon with him. But you know, taekwondo can do anything.

Sona mentions once that God is not on her side because the girl she wants to kidnap knows about kicks, however, the script is, as they arrive in a field of flowers and miraculously remember that Anushka is allergic to them!

And Anushka, as a smart girl, instead of leaving the way she came, decides to fight with the kidnapper in a place where she has a complete disadvantage, you know, the logical thing to do.

And not only that, but once kidnapped, she talks a lot and says things that no one should say in a kidnapping situation. It is not as if one wants to reveal to the kidnapper all the information that one is gathering from the kidnapper, it is not as if that diminishes the possibility of being released.

Besides, she doesn't seem scared and thinks it's temporary, despite the fact that six girls have already been murdered in the town and she doesn't seem to be the exception, as she fits perfectly into the target of this killer.

Undoubtedly the best part is when she manages to free herself from her bonds and instead of escaping, she takes her great and valuable time to make a figure with the rope on the furniture where she was tied and wait for the kidnapper on a wall, as if he were a spider and jump on him. Figure representing a hand showing the middle finger. 😶

All these things make this look more than horror or scary, a comedy movie or a parody, it reminded me of a scary movie. The worst of all is that they had the opportunity to do something better, because the idea they had wasn't so bad. However, they decided to throw it all away and it even seems deliberate, because I don't think anyone in their right mind would consider this as serious horror.

Continuing, Sona decides not to kill Anushka and steals a body from the morgue and with her great tattooing and make-up skills, she manages to pass the body off as Anushka's and get her husband released, because in India there is no way to check whether or not a body belongs to the person who is said to be. :)

So Anushka is kept prisoner, waiting for what they are going to do with her, and they release the gynecologist Joy, the real killer, who luckily got his turn to act, because in the whole movie his face had no expression and looked like an inanimate doll.

It is here where you realize that he would have been a good villain, with the typical excuses or traumas they use to kill, yes, but it would have even been a creepy situation if you didn't see those blunders and not credible at all that happen.

One such mistake is that Anushka's savior, i.e., the boyfriend repentant of leaving her, decides to look for her after seeing her supposed body in the clinic of this alleged murderer, the one that no one was watching and no one thought to look for before, and, upon arrival, gets into a closet to wait for the murderer.

However, he is locked inside and instead of making him believe that he can come out at any time and frighten him, he informs him that he is locked in, thus, the murderer already knows that there is nothing he can do to interrupt him in his fixation with Anushka.

The second character to arrive in this basement is our protagonist Sona, who is late to reach a scalpel and is taken by the doctor to bury it in one hand. Sona could not dig out the knife with her other free hand and use it to defend herself, but let herself be tied to the chair, and the number of bystanders of the murderer increases.

Aside from murderer, Joy has the super power or super luck to get the inspector also tied to a chair, free of his gun and at his mercy. It is there when they reveal that he knew he was the killer because he killed his sister and because it left him in a coma for two years, so he could not marry Sona.

To his luck, or misfortune, when he looked for the man who had left him in a coma, it was Sona's current husband, his ex. My, my, what a coincidence. "The love of his life, and the hate of his life" in one place, as he says. Aside from a cop, a philosopher. 😆

The good thing is that in these movies there is always a way to reverse the situation, even if one of the good guys gets hurt. But you know, nothing serious. In the same way, the killer comes out dead or half dead, because to kill these beings costs a lot, and here is no exception.

This is exactly what happens. The crazy gynecologist wasn't dead, and the lawyer, who is actually evil, helps him escape from the hospital, opening up the possibility for a second movie, perhaps.

But the worst part of all this is that this movie, which has no head or tail, was even entertaining to me. It kept me glued to the screen trying to figure out if it was comedy, parody, horror or what, and surprising me more and more every moment with absurd situations.

He showed me super bad effects, or effects that were not to my taste, and music that would be great for a scary movie, and others that were completely out of place.

I sincerely believe that this plot could have been improved by one that had more coherence and stopped being so convenient. I think they could have taken out the music that was out of place and left the ones that were in tune with the theme of the film.

That they should have used better effects and chosen better actors, or improved the performances of those already selected, because some had the potential to do better, like Sona.

I think that they should have finally settled on the genres of this movie, decide if it was going to be horror or comedy, because the two don't get along at all and what they do is confuse the viewer. I kept asking myself at every turn "What the heck is this?", "What am I watching?" "I can't believe it." 😆

I think a better job could have been done, but it never came, so, too bad. 🤷 I wonder what will be in store for the second installment, if there is one.

This has been all for today, see you in another publication. 🐱

I have seen a number of Indian movies in my life. I'm not particularly a fan of their productions but sometimes I just can't get up and leave when I'm watching their movies. It would be like the movie is bad but I want to see more anyway. Weird. From your review of this movie, it looks like it had the same type of effect on you. I like serial killer movies but I think I'll pass on this one.

Your review was great to read especially with the sarcasm here and there😂

  • @dayna199019(68)· 1592d

XD
