Horace and Pete is probably the most unique show on television, perhaps on American television. It has a concept of ‘’anti television’’ in terms of aesthetics and production of the modern age, the concept that television should be "filmed theater" in response to the current modern series.
Even the duration is different from episode to episode, some episodes have lasted for half an hour, one even 67 minutes. In some episodes we follow few characters in different places (actually ‘’rooms’’) and one entire episode is nothing but Horace talking with his ex-wife at a table in the cafe.
It’s the most daring show even in the terms of production- Louis CK, although advised not to produce the show alone with his own money, went for it, even thought it said that each episode would cost half a million dollars. He shot the pilot and without any notice posted it on his site. Even though at the end Louis went into the thick minus, it’s essential he acted alone, the way he wanted to, with full control over the content of the show.
Horace And Pete is the name of the cafe, which was founded by Horace and Pete hundred years ago, and since then the generational shifts are managed by their successors, always named Horace and Pete. It serves only a few basic drinks and Budweiser, no mixed drinks allowed.
Horace is played by Louis CK, and Pete’s Steve Buscemi. From episode to episode we follow their conversions, discussions and suffering of daily life. Horace And Pete not only does not look like anything else on the (Internet) TV, but couldn’t be more "anti" to all this. In fact, it is fairer to say that it wants to be drastically "anti" to everything that is served on television today. And it seems difficult at times (it’s ok to say boring) to watch, because Louis is testing our patience toward production and testing our patience toward the drama that is human. Louis's deliberately allowed characters to speak more that necessary in order to make a it seem like a real life.
