Movie Review: A Tribe Called Judah.

Review by @marsdave 🏆#149 🔥2 🎵3 🎬1 📺2 · 2h · of A Tribe Called Judah

It's been a while since I've actually watched this movie, and I can't help but recall it earlier today, then I thought it's best to make a review of it. It is titled "A tribe called Judah." It is a Nigerian movie by the great Funke Akindele herself; she's someone I respect and love so much. When it comes to Nigerian movies, she's always delivering the best.

Without beating around the bush, Funke Akindele herself played the lead role as Jedidah, a single mother of five children. Yeah, five children. And another interesting part is that all of those children have different fathers who are from different tribes. You read that right, five fathers with different tribes. We didn't get to see when those kids are growing up, but like you would know considering how they are from different fathers they as well have different characters. You can't help but wonder how they are siblings. What I'm saying in essence is that they are different; while some are very responsible, some prove to not really care. But then, they loved each other regardless of what you saw them doing, and their mother, Jedidah—they loved her so much.

Like I said earlier, Funke Akindele always deliver in her movies, and she did great with acting as Jedidah in this movie too. She's the kind of mother who would do anything and go to any length for her children. You know, she perfectly shows how our moms would stand by us, care for us, and even make sacrifices for us without us ever even knowing.

Though at one point, she (Jedidah) fell ill. And then the whole narrative changed again. All brothers came together to find a way to make sure their mom stays alive. Well, they finally did find themselves doing something nobody would have thought of just to make sure their mom gets treatment and gets back on her feet.

And the movie, I must add, is an emotional one. Yeah, not as if I cried, nah. But then it was very touching. I started off to watch just to entertain myself, only to find myself deep and so in it. Yeah, the movie also perfectly captures what family or very close people could think of or do when they get faced with life or are under pressure. That even things you thought you would never see yourself doing are what you will later find yourself doing.

Earlier, I mentioned that all of her five children were born to different fathers who are of different tribes. That even made the movie more interesting, and I even respected Funke Akindele more. Like, she did really well with the way she handled it, bringing different tribes in and making sure they remained one regardless of differences. I feel that was the main message of the movie. That we can be different and hail from different places and still stand together as one.

But then, I feel the robbery scene was a little bit too long. Yeah, that was what they found themselves doing to get money to sort the bills for their mom's illness. I just feel that scene is longer than necessary, not as if it ruined the movie, though. Nah, but then the movie isn't still a 100/100.

A tribe called Judah is one to give a watch. And I will definitely recommend it for anyone looking to watch a funny, emotional, Nigerian, and balanced movie.
