So, today we're diving into the second and last part of Agesinkole, the notorious thief. Here in this second part, the kingdom of Ajeromi now has a new king, a corrupt one at that, who's doing all his best to steal the resources of the kingdom together with his chiefs. And because they've done stuff to keep Agesinkole away, spiritual stuff, Agesinkole could not come back or be around to punish all of these corrupt sets of people.
But then again, out of their greediness, they themselves meddled and tampered with these spiritual forces they kept in place to keep Agesinkole away, and when they've messed with it, they faced the music. Agesinkole returns, not as a savior this time but as a judge, confronting the evil, wickedness, and corruption that have taken over Ajeromi land.
This story is a very deep one, especially considering how it is to some extent different from the first part. Agesinkole was everywhere in the first part, but here he wasn't. Remember I said the powerful and influential people of Ajeromi had done spiritual things to keep him away. But then again, it backfired when they thought they had total control, and this time around, he came to restore justice.
I also love how the movie mixes betrayal, place politics, spiritual powers, mythology, betrayals, and a lot together. And I also had great expectations of this movie, even though I later found out I enjoyed the first part more. But this second part is a banger too.
Kudos to Femi Adebayo once again on this great movie. I love his actions and the way he carries himself. Merely looking at him, you can't help but be scared; even the way he looks at people, you won't want to dare maintaining a straight gaze with him.
Now, the costume and production, they did excellently well too. This particular movie made me proud of what Nollywood's actors are doing. They aren't settling for less anymore, each trying their best to top up their game. If you see the movie, you can't help but wonder how they were able to get such an ancestral or aged Yoruba setting. It's obvious they put so much effort into making and building such a world that looks so aged, even in this age.
But then again, I said earlier that I still enjoyed the first part better. And that is because the first part is just so straightforward, things were more stronger there and all, but here in this second part, it seems like the storyline is being divided, thereby taking ones attention away from the main conflict. Like, I understand that they just want a bit of suspense, but then... It is what it is.
Also, when Agesinkole returned, knowing the kind of person that he was, he expected so much from him, but then he just came, did this and that, and everything calmed... Too quickly for my liking. Like, the ending is just too calm and quick for my liking. Considering the energy and all that's been coming right from the first part, to know end a movie just like this... Common. The climax deserves to be bigger than that.
This is not to disappoint you from giving the movie a watch. It is a great one.
