A few days ago I saw First Reformed, starring Ethan Hawke, and although I was not completely satisfied, the actor's performance seemed solid, so I decided to give a chance to others of his film, Regressión, which also involved Emma Watson, which I do not see from Harry Potter, lol. If you want to know how it was continuing reading.

Year: 2015 Category: Psychological Thriller, Mystery. Director: Alejandro Amenábar. Cast: Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Thewlis, Lothaire Bluteau, Dale Dickey, David Dencik, Peter MacNeill, Devon Bostick, Aaron Ashmore.
Plot
Minnesota, 1990, Detective Bruce Kenner investigates the case of Angela, who accuses her father John Gray of abusing her. When John admits his guilt but without remembering what happened, the renowned psychologist Dr. Raines joins the case to help him relive his repressed memories, which reveals what appears to be a sinister conspiracy.
Opinion
All starts when Bruce Kenner, a detective, investigates the case of John Gray, who confesses to having sexually abused his 17-year-old daughter Angela, although he also says he does not remember the moment in which he did it, so Bruce asks for help from the professor and psychologist Kenneth Raines to apply to John Gray a therapy called regression.
After being subjected to therapy, John Gray identifies George Nesbitt, a detective and colleague of Bruce, as the sexual abuser of his daughter, something that is confirmed by her, so Bruce arrests him, something that raises the tension within the police department.
Quickly everything goes complicated, apparently the abused now is not only Angela, but it is also possible that her older brother Roy Gray has also been abused, and not only by the father, but also by his grandmother, because apparently the family It is part of a complex scheme of satanic rituals that has the people of the town quite alarmed.
Thus the film mixes all the basic elements of a thriller of this category, the dark and cold climate, the rain, the presence of a scientific element represented in the figure of the psychologist, the whole religious element, a kind of fight between good and evil, the doubt about the existence of a metaphysical presence, and the confused and intrigued detective, but with the will to close the case, especially when it becomes personal.
Something interesting is that the movie starts showing us how John Gray, the father accused of abusing his daughter, enters the police station while that scene is shown in the first person making the shot with the camera in hand, something that is repeated in the middle of the movie but this time with Detective Bruce Kenner. What can be considered as a clear example of the disorientation that the main character has and for which the director of the film tries to make the spectator cross, so we are facing a film that plays a lot not only with mystery, but also with psychology too.
Alejandro Amenabar's directorial work, whom I previously knew from the film Tesis, is very good, he knows how to generate the mystery and the necessary tension climate, nevertheless, he was the one who made the script and although it is not bad, I think it is the weak point of the film, because I feel that it is not original enough, besides that the resolution of the film made me feel like in a Scooby-Doo episode.
The performances were good, especially Ethan Hawke, I think it was the right one for the role, but not Emma Watson, who does not do it badly, but does not convince me in this role, I feel that another actress would have done better on this occasion. The irony is that most people who saw this film did it for her more than anything else, or that's what I heard.
In short, it is a very entertaining film and has everything necessary for the viewer to enjoy its 106 minutes, although the end will not necessarily be satisfactory for everyone.

Good film, excellent direction, with a script that has some flaws at the time of resolution but that is acceptable, good performances, but not Emma Watson, which is below her level here.
