Plot

Two coroners, father and son, are in charge of performing an autopsy on the corpse of a woman's mysterious body, without knowing what problem they are getting into.

Opinion

The story is not complicated, the film begins showing us the shamelessness with which the coroners work with the corpses, cut here, sliced over there, sew over here, while showing us the corpse of some subject that seems to have burned.

Then we see that the coroners couple is composed of father and son, who have just completed their day, so Austin, the son, decides to leave with his girlfriend Emma, but before, Sheriff Sheldon Burke appears looking for Tommy Tilden, the father, because he found the unidentified body of a young woman, whom he calls Jane Doe, and tells him that he needs the cause of death by morning.

In this situation Austin decides to accompany his father in the autopsy, promising to meet Emma later, however, he does not know what is about to happen.

The film gradually builds suspense, the first 45 minutes are very good, everything is mysterious and quite intriguing, as the autopsy advances each discovery seems to be more unreal than the previous one, nothing has explanation and every answer is possible. However, what happens next is nothing too special, in the next 40 minutes the film lowers the level, although this does not mean that it becomes boring, only that there is a downside compared to the first part of the movie.

The direction work by André Øvredal was good here, although I do not know his previous works. The script made by Ian Goldberg is regular, I feel that the film needs something, a little more depth or maybe action.

The performances are good, Brian Cox is a great actor and in this role he did not have to work hard, he did it on autopilot. Emile Hirsch, whom I had not seen for some time, appears here and does well too. The rest is acceptable even if they do not appear on screen much longer. Finally, Olwen Kelly, who acts as a corpse, but still his presence is quite impressive.

In short, a film that can be seen without complications, valid for a night in which you want to see a movie of this genre.

Moderately recommendable movie, nothing special, but it has a very good first 45 minutes and last 40 minutes between regular and acceptable.
