Ayer fallé a mi Lunes de películas con Mary, pero se los prometo que fue por causas ajenas a mi voluntad, así que vamos a fingir que hoy es Lunes y continuemos con el curso normal de mis reseñas (ja,ja,ja). La reseña del día de hoy es sobre una película que desde hace tiempo me estaba pidiendo a gritos que la viera, pero yo la ignoraba. Es extraño, pero el poster de la película me generaba desconfianza porque me recordaba al de una película malísima cuya trama giraba entorno de los dramas cómicos que envolvían a una familia. Lo cierto es que veía el poster y enseguida ignoraba cualquier recomendación, sin ni siquiera determe a ver el trailer y a indagar sobre el reparto de actores.

Al final, terminé cediendo, y ni siquiera me hizo falta ver el trailer porque con los buenos actores que participaban en la película fui directo a reproducirla. Además de que las palabras "misterio y comedia en la descripción, me terminaron de convencer. Posiblemente ya hayan visto esta película, pero para los que no la han visto todavía porque hay algo que nos le convence quizás encuentren en buen motivo en esta reseña para finalmente verla (tal y como me ocurrió a mí).

Yesterday I missed my Monday Movies with Mary, but I promise you it was through no fault of my own, so let's pretend today is Monday and continue with the normal course of my reviews (ha,ha,ha,ha). Today's review is about a movie that has been screaming for me to see for a long time, but I ignored it. It's strange, but the poster of the movie made me suspicious because it reminded me of a very bad movie whose plot revolved around the comic dramas involving a family. The truth is that I saw the poster and immediately ignored any recommendation, without even stopping to watch the trailer and inquire about the cast.

In the end, I gave in, and I didn't even need to watch the trailer because with the good actors in the movie, I went straight to playing it. Besides the words "mystery and comedy in the description, I was sold. Possibly you have already seen this movie, but for those who haven't seen it yet because there is something that doesn't convince you, maybe you will find a good reason in this review to finally see it (as it happened to me).

Una muerte misteriosa que tendremos que indagar detalle a detalle, un gran elenco con actores de primer nivel y uno de los guiones más divertidos que he visto en los últimos meses, así es este whodunit titulado Knives Out o como se conoce en Latinoamérica Entre Navajas y Secretos. Como les digo, esta película posee un reparto de actores increíbles entre los que destacan: Daniel Creig (Agente 007), Jamie Lee Curtis (Freaky Friday), Chris Evans (Capitán América), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why), entre otros. Quizás para algunas personas el hecho de tener a un elenco con actores tan reconocidos resulte ser un gran gancho para ver la película, mientras que para otras personas este es un factor que los haga dudar un poco en si verla o no...pero esto lo discutiremos más adelante.

La historia comienza cuando el famoso escritor de novelas policíacas y patriarca de una gran familia disfuncional, Harlan Thrombey, es encontrado degollado en una de las habitaciones de su gran mansión a la mañana siguiente de su cumpleaños número ochenta y cinco. Aunque todo parece indicar que se trata de un aparente suicidio, el detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) es contratado por una persona anónima para desenmascarar al verdadero culpable de la muerte de Harlan.

A mysterious death that we will have to investigate detail by detail, a great cast with first class actors and one of the funniest scripts I have seen in recent months, so is this whodunit titled Knives Out or as it is known in Latin America Entre Navajas y Secretos. As I tell you, this movie has a cast of incredible actors among which stand out: Daniel Creig (Agent 007), Jamie Lee Curtis (Freaky Friday), Chris Evans (Captain America), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why), among others. Maybe for some people the fact of having a cast with such recognized actors will turn out to be a great hook to see the movie, while for other people this is a factor that makes them a little hesitant to see it or not...but we will discuss this later.

The story begins when the famous crime writer and patriarch of a large dysfunctional family, Harlan Thrombey, is found with his throat slit in one of the rooms of his large mansion the morning after his eighty-fifth birthday. Although everything seems to indicate that it is an apparent suicide, detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is hired by an anonymous person to unmask the real culprit of Harlan's death.

Blanc buscará resolver el caso recibiendo ayuda de Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) quien fue la enfermera y mejor amiga de Harlan hasta el día de su muerte. Cabe destacar que Blanc deposita su confianza en Marta ya que es una persona incapaz de mentir, pues se delata de una manera bastante obvia y extraña. Blanc va desentrañando poco a poco los secretos familiares e irá descubriendo que tanto los hijos como nietos de Harlan tenían sus posibles buenas razones para cometer el homicidio o esconder información sobre quien lo hizo.

Si combinamos la muerte del millonario, con una lista de posibles sospechosos y una gran mansión como escenario de un posible crimen ¿a qué les recuerda? ¡sí, exacto! al famoso juego de Clue o también llamado ¿Quién es el culpable? y hasta aquí la historia se nos presenta como un misterio tradicional e incluso hasta cliché con un cierto tono de farsa y una estética anticuada, pero poco a poco las interrogantes se irán acumulando. Además, la trama va cobrando también mucha fuerza cuando nos adentramos en la difícil relación que tienen entre sí cada uno de los miembros de la familia Thrombey y, en medio de todo esto, nos llevaremos varias sorpresas al tratar de descifrar ¿qué fue lo que verdaderamente ocurrió con Harlan Thrombey?

Blanc will seek to solve the case with the help of Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) who was Harlan's nurse and best friend until the day of his death. It should be noted that Blanc places his trust in Marta as she is a person incapable of lying, as she gives herself away in a very obvious and strange way. Blanc gradually unravels the family secrets and discovers that both Harlan's children and grandchildren had their possible good reasons for committing the murder or hiding information about who did it.

If we combine the death of the millionaire, with a list of possible suspects and a large mansion as the scene of a possible crime, what does it remind you of? yes, exactly! the famous game of Clue or also called Who is the culprit? and up to here the story is presented as a traditional mystery and even cliché with a certain tone of farce and an old-fashioned aesthetic, but little by little the questions will accumulate. In addition, the plot is also gaining strength when we get into the difficult relationship between each of the members of the Thrombey family and, in the midst of all this, we will have several surprises when trying to decipher what really happened to Harlan Thrombey?.

Siempre me han agradado las tramas policiacas en donde te entretienes a medida que vas elaborando tu propia teoría mientras la cinta transcurre, así que para serles sincera esta película me gustó muchísimo, realmente no recuerdo cuando fue la última vez que una película me gustó tanto hasta tal punto de querer verla por una segunda, tercera y cuarta vez. A pesar de que uno de los motivos que me llevó a ver Entre Navajas y Secretos fue su elenco tan grande y lleno de nombres reconocidos en la industria, esto me generó a la vez una especie de miedo al pensar de si la trama que estaba a punto de ver podría funcionar o no. Muchas veces resulta como un arma de doble filo que una película o serie tenga un elenco de actores tan reconocidos, pues eso podría ser indicativo de que no está tan bien elaborada, existen unos que otros vacíos o simplemente no es tan entretenida, pero nada de eso ocurrió en esta oportunidad. En cuanto a todos los personajes que podemos ver en la cinta, cada uno de ellos está muy bien construido y lo más importante: ninguno sobra o se ve desaprovechado, todos y cada uno de los personajes enjaban a la perfección dentro de todo este rompecabezas y, al final, todo funcionaba a la perfección como una correcta maquinaria, tal y como debería de ser en una historia de crimen y misterio. A parte de que cada una de las actuaciones fueron excelentes y desde mi más sincera opinión, tenía mucho tiempo sin ver una película con un elenco de actores muy bien elegido.

Además de las excelentes actuaciones y de unos personajes muy bien construídos, algo que no podemos dejar de mencionar es el guión. Me agrada el hecho de que toda la trama se desenvuelve con el suficiente ritmo como para mantener al espectador alerta de lo que está apunto de ocurrir, pero a su vez no es tan rápida como para no permitirle elaborar sus propias teorías. Este guión se va desarrollando según como luce la verdad desde un inicio, y al principio podemos sentirnos un poco estafados porque muchas cosas podrían resultarnos evidentes o predecibles, pero hay giros muy interesantes de trama que hacen que esta se desenvuelva creando una gran bola de nieve a su paso y generando un misterio aún mayor. Y, de esta manera, cuando pensamos haber descifrado todo, la trama viene y nos empuja directo hacia otro camino de una manera muy soprendente para para nada ilógica. A medida de que las piezas van encajando y el misterio va teniendo más luz, no nos queda más que regocijarnos y deleitarnos gracias a un guión tan bien estructurado de inicio a fin.

I have always liked crime plots where you are entertained as you work out your own theory as the film unfolds, so to be honest I really liked this movie, I really can't remember the last time I liked a movie so much that I wanted to see it a second, third and fourth time. Although one of the reasons that led me to see Entre Navajas y Secretos was its big cast and full of recognized names in the industry, this generated a kind of fear in me thinking if the plot I was about to see could work or not. Many times it is like a double-edged sword that a movie or series has such a large cast of recognized actors, because that could be an indication that it is not so well elaborated, there are some gaps or it is simply not so entertaining, but none of that happened this time. As for all the characters that we can see in the film, each one of them is very well constructed and the most important thing: none of them is wasted or wasted, each and every one of the characters fit perfectly into this puzzle and, in the end, everything worked perfectly as a correct machinery, as it should be in a crime and mystery story. Aside from the fact that each of the performances were excellent and from my most sincere opinion, I had a long time without seeing a movie with a very well chosen cast of actors.

In addition to the excellent performances and very well constructed characters, something we can't fail to mention is the script. I like the fact that the whole plot unfolds with enough pace to keep the viewer alert to what's about to happen, but at the same time it's not so fast paced that it doesn't allow you to elaborate your own theories. This script unfolds according to what the truth looks like from the beginning, and at first we may feel a bit cheated because many things might be obvious or predictable, but there are very interesting plot twists that make the plot unfold creating a big snowball in its wake and generating an even bigger mystery. And, in this way, just when we think we have it all figured out, the plot comes along and pushes us straight down another path in a very surprising and not at all illogical way. As the pieces fit together and the mystery becomes clearer, we can only rejoice and delight thanks to a script that is so well structured from start to finish.

El concepto de una familia ricachona un tanto disfuncional donde cada quien vela por sus intereses propios muy por encima de el de los demás podría resultar algo cliché, pero es la personalidad de cada uno de los sospechosos lo que te hace olvidar de cuántas películas tienen un punto de partida similar. Por otro lado, a pesar de que esta es una película con muchos tintes de humor negro, este resulta muy elegante y termina convirtiéndose en un elemento que suma lo necesario en ocasiones muy bien definidas, sin la necesidad de recurrir a exageraciones o chistes fuera de contexto y lomás importante: sin perder seriedad. Esto lo aplaudo muchísimo, porque últimamente he visto tantas películas cuyo toque de humor es tan exagerado que, por más maravillosa que sea la trama, termina siendo un desperdicio.

Otras cosas que me gustaron y debo resaltar, a parte del maravilloso giro de los acontecimientos que casi me hace caer al suelo, son las tomas aéreas de la mansión y la banda sonoroa...¡la banda sonora, Dios mío! es que aquel ritmo con el cual comienza la historia es toda una genialidad. Realmente me cuesta encontrar algo negativo en toda la película, pero quizás algo que sí pueda criticar es ese afán de recurrir al gran intelecto del detective Blanc para suponer algunos eventos y hacerlo ver como un hombre sumamente perspicaz e inteligente. Aunque bueno, creo que no me puedo quejar demasiado al respecto porque casi en la mayoría de este tipo de personajes ocurre exactamente lo mismo, pero particularme ese siempre ha sido un punto que logra sacarme un poco de quicio.

The concept of a somewhat dysfunctional rich family where everyone looks out for their own interests above those of others could be somewhat cliché, but it is the personality of each of the suspects that makes you forget how many films have a similar starting point. On the other hand, even though this is a film with a lot of black humor, it is very elegant and ends up becoming an element that adds up to what is necessary in very well defined occasions, without the need to resort to exaggerations or jokes out of context and the most important thing: without losing seriousness. I applaud this very much, because lately I have seen so many movies whose touch of humor is so exaggerated that, no matter how wonderful the plot is, it ends up being a waste.

Other things I liked and must highlight, apart from the wonderful turn of events that almost made me fall to the ground, are the aerial shots of the mansion and the soundtrack...the soundtrack, my God! the rhythm with which the story begins is a stroke of genius. It's really hard for me to find something negative in the whole film, but perhaps something I can criticize is the eagerness to resort to the great intellect of detective Blanc to assume some events and make him look like a very perceptive and intelligent man. Although well, I think I can't complain too much about it because almost in most of this kind of characters the exact same thing happens, but particularly that has always been a point that manages to get on my nerves a little bit.

¿Que si me gustó esta película? Señores, a mí no me gustó, YO AMÉ esta película. Básicamente reune muchos elementos que en lo particular me agrada: un misterios por resolver, intriga, una gran trama, buenos actores interpretando personajes excelentes y giros de trama que me hacen volar la cabeza. Mi personaje favorito de toda esta historia fue Harlan, porque al final de cuenta era el único de la familia que mostraba interés por las demás personas. No sólo me reí y me divertí con esta película, sino también me dio un poco de nostalgia con lo que ocurrió con la víctima cuando se descubre qué fue lo que realmente ocurrió. Por otro lado, quedé maravillada con la actuación de Ana de Armas, me alegra haberla visto en este papel protagónico porque a mi parecer es una actriz con mucho potencial. Como le dije, esta película es una de esas que, sin pensarlo, la vería muchas veces más, así que yo le doy un sólido:

Did I like this movie? Gentlemen, I didn't like it, I LOVED this movie. Basically it brings together many elements that I particularly like: a mystery to solve, intrigue, a great plot, good actors playing excellent characters and plot twists that blow my mind. My favorite character in this whole story was Harlan, because at the end of the day he was the only one in the family who showed interest in the other people. Not only did I laugh and have fun with this movie, but it also made me a little nostalgic with what happened to the victim when you find out what really happened. Por otro lado, quedé maravillada con la actuación de Ana de Armas, me alegra haberla visto en este papel protagónico porque a mi parecer es una actriz con mucho potencial. As I told you, this movie is one of those that, without thinking about it, I would watch it many more times, so I give it a solid:
