¡Hey, hey, hey, Hive!

Hace dos meses adquirí una cuenta de Netflix, aun cuando no dispongo de mucho tiempo, siempre intento apreciar algunas obras del cine y la televisión. De pequeña crecí frente al televisor, como mis padres trabajaban, durante las vacaciones pasaba quizás demasiado tiempo viendo infinidad de programas, sin embargo, intenté aprender todo lo posible de ello, sabemos que la intención principal es el entretenimiento, pero algunas historias, situaciones o diálogos pueden enseñar bastante, lo suficiente como para no acusar al mundo cinematográfico de inservible.

A month ago I acquired a Netflix account, even when I do not have much time, I always try to appreciate some works of cinema and television. As a child I grew up in front of the TV, as my parents worked, during the vacations I spent perhaps too much time watching countless programs, however, I tried to learn as much as possible from it, we know that the main intention is entertainment, but some stories, situations or dialogues can teach enough, enough not to accuse the film world of uselessness.

Este post es para dar una apreciación sobre un dorama surcoreado que me gustaría que tuviera más atención de la que consta. No tengo años de experiencia viendo programas de esta categoría, estos tienden a ser principalmente tan románticos que pueden rozar lo empalagoso, pero no deja de lado que es un buen contenido, sobre todo para las mujeres, porque ¿quién no sueña con un amor de televisión?

This post is to give an appreciation for a South Korean dorama that I wish it got more attention than it consists of. I don't have years of experience watching shows in this category, these tend to be mostly so romantic that they can border on cloying, but it doesn't stop it from being good content, especially for women, because who doesn't dream of a TV love?

Aún así debo acotar que la mayoría de los doramas que he visto también dejan buenas enseñanzas, me gusta pensar que todos lo hacen, sin embargo tienden a ser muy parecidos o clichés. Pero hoy quiero hablarles sobre Itaewon Class, una total joyita presentada en el catalogo de Netflix que a mí parecer rompe estándares del mundo del dorama.

Even so, I must point out that most of the doramas I have seen also leave good teachings, I like to think that all of them do, however they tend to be very similar or cliché. But today I want to talk to you about Itaewon Class, a total gem presented in the Netflix catalog that in my opinion breaks the standards of the dorama world.

Con una sola temporada de 16 capítulos, la base principal de la historia es que un ex-convicto y sus amigos intentan hacer realidad sus ambiciosos sueños de abrir un bar en un pintoresco barrio de Seúl. Esta serie transmitida del 31 de enero del 2020 hasta el 21 de marzo del 2020, a través de JTBC, llegó a Netflix para hacer presencia entre los espectadores.​ La serie está basada en el webtoon "Itaewon Class" de Gwang Jin, publicada en diciembre del 2016.

With a single season of 16 episodes, the main basis of the story is that an ex-convict and his friends try to realize their ambitious dreams of opening a bar in a quaint neighborhood in Seoul. This series aired from January 31, 2020 until March 21, 2020, through JTBC, came to Netflix to make a presence among viewers. The series is based on the webtoon "Itaewon Class" by Gwang Jin, released in December 2016.

Tuvo varias nominaciones a distintos premios, y ganó en alguno de ellos, como por ejemplo Drama del año en los 7th APAN Star Award y Mejor actris revelación en los 56th Baeksang Arts Award para Kim Da-mi, quién interpreta a la protagonista principal de la historia.

It had several nominations for different awards, and won some of them, such as Drama of the Year at the 7th APAN Star Award and Best New Actress at the 56th Baeksang Arts Award for Kim Da-mi, who plays the main protagonist of the story.

Este ha sido el último drama protagonizado por Park Seo-joon, uno de los galanes favoritos de este género. Y la verdad, fue muy gratificante ver una cara tan reconocida en esta historia repleta de enseñanzas. Toca distintos puntos que están fuera del tema común en la sociedad coreana, para nada aceptados como las personas creerían, dándole un punto de vista amargo y realista.

This was the latest drama starring Park Seo-joon, one of the favorite actors of this genre. And to tell the truth, it was very gratifying to see such a recognizable face in this story full of teachings. It touches on different points that are out of the common theme in Korean society, not at all accepted as people would believe, giving it a bitter and realistic point of view.

No quiero hacer contenido con spoiler porque me gustaría que si alguien decide verla, concluya su propia opinión sobre ella con la historia planteada completamente, ya que tiene muchos factores que dejan qué pensar. De este drama se pueden encontrar distintas opiniones en la red, tal vez llene las expectativas o no, pero en mi criterio, para mi gusto, las rebasó. Desarrollando personajes con historias que se mezclan entre lo trágico, reflexivo y decepcionante, me vi inmersa entre sus líneas admirando y aprendiendo de cada escena.

I don't want to make spoiler content because I would like that if someone decides to watch it, to conclude his own opinion about it with the story fully presented, since it has many factors that leave something to think about. You can find different opinions about this drama on the net, maybe it meets the expectations or not, but in my opinion, for my taste, it exceeded them. Developing characters with stories that mix tragic, reflective and disappointing, I found myself immersed in its lines, admiring and learning from each scene.

Temas como rechazo racial, el bullying, los trastornos mentales, el apego emocional dependiente, la corrupción, y el de mayor tabú: las personas transgéneros, me dio una perspectiva de cómo es verdaderamente "el lindo mundo" que nos plantea muy seguido el resto de los doramas. Cabe acotar que pudieron profundizar más en estos aspectos, dar un desarrollo más amplio y coherente a ciertos personajes, pero eso no lo hace menos impactante y bueno de ver.

Topics such as racial rejection, bullying, mental disorders, dependent emotional attachment, corruption, and the most taboo one: transgender people, gave me a perspective of what "the beautiful world" that the rest of the doramas often show us is really like. It should be noted that they could have gone deeper into these aspects, giving a broader and more coherent development to certain characters, but that does not make it any less shocking and good to watch.

Acá cada quién tiene su historia, desde el protagonista resiliente hasta los antagonistas descarados, porqué son cómo son, tienen una razón específica aunque seguramente no aceptada por todos. Con un mensaje de crecimiento personal, ambición, amistad, apoyo, valores morales y la búsqueda constante de relaciones interpersonales sanas, Itaewon Class se convierte en el dorama que más me ha encantado, lo amé, aunque decaiga en algunos puntos, porque fue fresca, divertida e intrépida.

Here everyone has their own story, from the resilient protagonist to the shameless antagonists, why they are the way they are, they have a specific reason although surely not accepted by everyone. With a message of personal growth, ambition, friendship, support, moral values and the constant search for healthy interpersonal relationships, Itaewon Class becomes the dorama that I loved the most, I loved it, even if it declines at some points, because it was fresh, funny and fearless.

El plus final para motivarte a que la veas es que consta de un soundtrack buenísimo, no por nada el OST ganó como el mejor en los 7th APAN Star Award.

The final plus to motivate you to see it is that it has a great soundtrack, not for nothing the OST won as the best at the 7th APAN Star Award.
