Series Review: "An Idiot Abroad" - What a ride....

Review by @maxjoy · 3568d · of An Idiot Abroad

I don’t know why but I’ve only recently seen the “An Idiot Abroad” Show. And I must say, it's hilarious.

I’ve been a fan of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant ever since I saw the first episode of “The Office”.

I can tell you I can’t help but fell sorry for myself due to the fact that It took me so long to see it.

The first season was released in 2010. It basically consists on sending this guy “the idiot” around the world to see the seven wonders. He is a very likeable person and has a tremendous sense of humour.

The title comes from Ricky and Stephen wish to make him (their friend) uncomfortable. "This is the most expensive practical joke I've ever done" said Gervais.

They also knew his perspective would be extremely funny in this situations… He comes up with some incredible sentences, such as: “It’s not really the great wall of China is it?… It’s more like the alright wall of China”

The first episode alone got me totally hooked on the show, when he goes to the “not so” great wall of China. It felt great to see something this funny. In each episode he visits a different wonder, he goes to Egypt and so on… and every single time it's hilarious.

The levels of irony is also worth mentioning… I mean most people would not mind get free trips to see the seven wonders of the world. But he would rather not… and I must say… I agree with him on a lot of those points of view. (and I love traveling)

All of it is hilarious, you get to see many conversations he has with his wife (who’s quite funny too) and Ricky for example: a conversation where he tells him the show will be called “An Idiot Abroad”

All the time you can see the pleasure Ricky and Stephen get from making life hard for our much loved “Idiot” (who is actually a cool guy) The amount of situations he gets into are incredible and his reactions to those situations are priceless.

As soon as I finished the first season I started watching the second one. And it doesn’t let you down… this time he will choose a bucket list item for each episode. Again hilarious and again he doesn’t particularly like it.

All completely funny. One time he goes to sleep on a private desert island… sounds pretty good… but you can’t imagine what he has to go through.

In comes the third and last season. They paired him with a “little person” actor. The combo could not be funnier! seriously… what a ride… they even get to start in a Bollywood movie heheh

In short I would say the series is a much watch.

An Idiot Abroad is a great series! I love Karl Pilkington. Have you seen his other series, The Moaning of Life? It's fabulous as well.
