Waltz with Bashir is an incredible movie that tries to reconstruct the 1982 invasion of Lebanon following personal stories portrayed in profound psychological encounters.
It is an animated documentary that encompasses the war experience and biography of the movie director Ari Folman, who decided to create this movie in order to exonerate himself from the wounds of the past.
Besides the fact that it draws light on the nature of the Lebanon conflict, the movie has astonishing visuals combined with drops of reality. I will share here some of the visuals I enjoyed in the movie in order to have an idea about it:
The reference to ''Bashir'' in the movie title is linked with Bashir Gemayel, who was the president of Lebanon from 23 August 1982 until two weeks later on September when he was assassinated. Gemayel's assassination is said to have triggered the massacre at Sabra and Shatila.
The movie was a big surprise for me, considering that I don't like animations that much, and this mix between animation and documentary seemed even more frightening. I can now say it is one of my favourite movies because it is a great mix of animation, documentary, drama, biography, and human psychology.
I have never seen such an interesting movie and with such vivid emotional animated expressions. Though it is an animated movie, it is definitely a movie for adults, and the nature of animations clearly states it.
To understand what I am talking about it, you just have to see it. And if you didn't see it already, I clearly recommend this movie. Over time, the movie has won multiple awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film - Israel (USA, 2009), and had many nominations.
