I admit it. I like Trolls. I originally saw it in the theater with my daughter. And I felt it was just nothing but a sugary blast of fun and silliness.
Who knew that coming up with characters based on the pencil toppers we had in school back in the day could be such a neat character, living in a very enjoyable world.
The Bergans are the enemy in this world of Trolls. And we are introduced to their history through scrapbooking. Apparently, there is a lot felt based scrapbooking in the world of trolls. I loved watching the felt texture of the scrapbooking history lesson. The Trolls are led by appropriately named King Peppy. During an attack by the Bergens he lives the motto, no Troll left behind, as he saves his people from certain annihilation.
And so for the next 20 years the Trolls don’t suffer from a Bergen attack. So an entire generation of Trolls forget about the possibility of an attack. All expect Branch.

Why do the Bergens hate the Trolls so much? Well, eating a troll apparently is the only way to be happy. It’s as if they are a drug.
The Bergens want to eat Trolls, because they believe that is the only way to be happy. Of course, the long lesson of the movie is for the Bergens to learn that happiness comes from within ourselves, and it is not something that we put inside ourselves. And in many ways, it seems this movie is one big drug trip, and a very enjoyable one at that.
The movie star Anna Kenderick as Princess Poppy, Justin Timberlake as Branch, and Zooey Deschanel as Bridget. I did not recognize Zooey as the character Bridgette, her voice was much more timid in this movie, than her character in The New Girl.

The music is the true star in the movie. Any movie, that steals from Simon and Garfunkel, Cyndi Lauper, Gwen Stephani, and the Gorillaz has done something right. My five-year-old daughter loves the soundtrack. It is on constant repeat when traveling in our Santa Fe.

The Blu-Ray comes with several behind the scenes featurettes that I found enjoyable. It was cool to see out they decided on the texture of the world. The fuzzy texture of the world. There is a neat piece showing the different steps of The Sound of Silence scene. From previsualization, to character animation, to lighting, a neat play by play of the process.
The Blu-Ray also comes from some silly games children may like. There is a sing-along edition. Which will get a lot of play in my house.
If you have an HDR TV, this disc will really pop. If you have a young child, you may want to pick up this disc.
