All rise for the intergalactic knight and true leader of the Empire, Darth Vadar. The ultimate anti hero/hero who brings balance to the force and drew me into the world of science fiction which is my #1 genre of movies followed by fantasy.
Darth Vadar first graced our screens in Star Wars: A New Hope fitted in all black attire with a never before seen helmet. Not only were we blessed with world first technology in filming but we were introduced to an entire new galaxy with a super villain never before seen. Brute power, Brute force and trained in the ancient powers if the Sith? No, as we learned in later episodes he was a Jedi turned to the dark side.
I think Darth Vadar gave the world something we had never seen before, a true anti-hero. A man in a mask just trying to defend his troops against invaders. Common folk trying to overthrow the government type of stuff. Didn't really do anything bad other than blow up a few planets and kill a few billion people but it doesn't count. It's not real.
As the story unfolded we learned more about the character his past and the ever expanding universe that continued to deliver action packed scene after scene with new plants, new species of sentient beings and an ever growing fan base!
Back in the day you were either a star wars or a star trek fan, star track had spock but we had Darth Vadar. The argument could be had that Luke Skywalker was the lead character but as the series unfolded the franchise took a turn as more and more people fell in love with the Super villain instead of the main hero.
The revelation that Darth Vadar was Luke's father in that famous with the words "I am your father" blowing the franchise and sowing the seeds of doubt. Is Darth Vadar actually the good guy and Luke the bad?
Episodes 1, 2 and 3 delved further into our dark lords past as the saga focused more about the lead character, Darth Vadar as that's where the fan base flowed. Unfortunately it was a massive flop and Lucas Arts did a good job with a background story but didn't deliver the same punch as episodes 4, 5, 6.
Fortunately episodes 7, 8, 9 revisited the successful formula that gave us our most famous anti-hero. Kylo Ren wore much of his uncles traits. He even attempted to resurrect the Empire with the New Order.
Just like his uncle he turns good, but he was never ever bad nor was Darth Vadar. They were just living their lives in a job they fell into.
And it was all about balance and order, for there to be peace there needed to be light and darkness. Two opposing forces and as soon as darkness grew it was a skywalker that balanced it out. Like in the ending scene when Kylo Ren hands Ray a light saber through their force link.
Why is Darth Vadar my favourite super villain, he's quite relatable to alot of people. The story of a father trying to hold his shit together and save his wife whom he was forbidden to be with from death by a galaxy that tore them apart.
The question needs to be asked, was Darth Vadar actually the bad guy in this scifi block buster? I'll leave it upto you to decide.
