For most people Chris Hemsworth is the God of Thunder, Thor in the Marvel cinematic universe but Chris hasn't always been just that magnificent God of Thunder. He commenced his acting career on home and away, a popular afternoon T.V show amongst Australians.
Aired in 1988 it was developed in response to a group of NSW locals whom were protesting against having a foster home built in their town. The screen writers decided to turn it into a pilot and it has since become Australia's longest running drama alongside Neighbours which Chris Hemsworth also played a role in.
Despite many of Chris's achievements on and off screen I believe his role in Extraction a 2020 action packed film based in Bangladesh where Chris plays a black ops mercenary tasked with the job of rescuing an Indian drug lords son who has been kidnapped in Dhaka.
The movie takes us across beautiful scenes of India and locations many of us had probably never heard of. A modern day twist to the traditional action packed block buster Extraction brought back the action of the 80s and gave us a new name, new location and new thrills.
Akin to an old school Arnold or Stallone film Extraction was like reliving my youth but with better sound, better explosions and everything just better!
Chris is matched in acting by his famous Bollywood actor counter part Star Randeep Hooda who provides an extra level of action in Bollywood flare and grace. The two actors matched on screen provide a unique and truly memorable viewing experience.
Their hand to hand combat scenes are on a totally norther level and it exceeds battle scenes of past decades, Stallone would be proud at the action film that has been made.
An interesting fact about Randeep is that he actually spent alot of time in Australia studying and pursuing his career, he resided in Melbourne, Australia! Wonder if he was in the Western Suburbs?
Randeep spends most the film trying to stop Chris from rescuing the boy and interjecting with many attempts as well as chasing him through Bangladesh in some pretty intense chase scenes. Through this we get to see an abundance of colour and culture from India with colourful clothing, traditional music and dancing. But none of it over shadows the action packed adventure that were taken on from the very beginning.
The film centres in hard around the drug lords son as the primary mission but not for a moment are we left behind while the story progresses from action scene to action scene fighting groups, gangs and even the military Chris dominates the battlefield only losing points to Randeep. It's probably the first ever equal match between a hero and a bad guy (is it because he's been to Melbourne?)
Netflix original movie Extraction became its biggest success to date in the entire history of Netflix and a 2nd movie is planned but it was held up due to COVID and Chris's role as Thor.
It wasn't without criticism as critics did criticise the negative portrayal of Bangladesh. Which was odd because after watching this movie I want to book a holiday there. Bangladesh looks beautiful!
If you haven't checked out Extraction I would highly recommend putting on a pot of popcorn and strapping yourself in for an action packed evening as Chris Hemsworth darts through Bangladesh in an adrenalin filled adventure with his equal hot on his trails.
