Oh boy oh boy oh boy, what's better than a spaghetti western? A spaghetti western in outter space of course! I remember those early days of silver T.V. not because I was born then but because my grandfather would watch all his favourite spaghetti westerns over and over again. He loved the gun fights. We'd laugh as a rifle was shot only for it to be heard a few moments later and not in synch with the actual film.
Or what about the famous wood chopping scenes, every spaghetti western had one, bloke out the front in a flannelette shirt chopping wood. The axe would strike and then lift, the sound displaced.
Kind of like a Driza-Bone jacket on a space cowboy, serves no purpose. There isn't any rain in outter space but it still made Nathan Fillion look the part as he jet setted across the universe in his trusty steed, or his floating pile of metal the Serenity.
I have to admit I was a fan boy, but this T.V series is one of the series that put me off T.V shows. I remember coming home from school, heating up a packet of Maggie 2 minute noodles and watching the episode I recorded. I was absolutely devastated when the series was cancelled without even finishing the first season.
I often talking to people at school about this show, how so could it be that no one else was watching it?
What I didn't know was that there was an uproar amongst fans and 7 years late 7 YEARS! Serenity was released to tie up all the loose ends and give fans what they wanted.
Now hold up a little here, this post isn't about Serenity. Truth be told I haven't watched it. Nope, I'm still scared from my tender youthful years. The excitement I'd experienced rushing home to see what Captain Mal and the crew were upto. Instead I had to sit down and start watching Star Gate... still a notable mention and a wonderful expanded universe that never delivered us a sequal.... well not a block buster anyway.
I really feel that the late 90s and early 20s brought us into a world of Si-fi and laid the foundations to much of what we have today. Unfortunately many tried and failed. I liked firefly and if I had to rank it against something it's kind of similar to Guardians of the Galaxy and who knows was probably in part inspired by it (no idea just a statement)
But where are they now? What had the ol Cap Mal been upto since traversing the universe on a cargo ship trying to make an honest and at times illegal living. Some what similar to Han Solo?
Well, he's been here on Hive @themarkymark invested heavily in Hive... 🤣 that's a joke, it probably isn't Nathan Fillion, or is it?
I'll leave it upto you to decide, but after writing this post I think I might sit down and put my hurt to rest and watch Serenity.
