El principito (título original: Le Petit Prince) es un filme francés2 de animación por computadora y animación cuadro por cuadro, dirigido por Mark Osborne. Irena Brignull escribió el guion basado en la novela de 1943 del mismo nombre escrita por Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Es la primera versión animada del principito, el largometraje usa animación cuadro por cuadro para el cuento y animación por computadora para la narración adicional.

Esta película es una adaptación libre de la novela de Saint-Exupéry. en ella recrea la historia de una niña que la madre es obsesiva y quiere que realice actividades en tiempos estrictos, por no conseguir el cupo en un colegio, la madre para que la niña no se distraiga, se muda a una casa a otro lado de la ciudad...pero resulta que tiene de vecino a un hombre de cierta edad que es muy distraído, se hace amigo de la niña porque ella ve divertido lo que hace, descubre una bella historia de un niño que se encuentra con un aviador al cual le cuenta su historia en el desierto. La niña se distrae con el vecino leyendo la historia y descuida sus tareas que tiene programadas descubre que su vecino es el aviador y que el niño supuestamente murió, El vecino se enferma y la niña va en busca de "El principito" quien ya debe ser adulto.
En la película se nombra en varias ocasiones, y de hecho es una preocupación constante de la niña: crecer. El anciano le comenta que “Crecer no es el problema, olvidar lo es”. ... Me gusta hacer esta entrega porque es una película que han transmitido varias veces, pero la última vez que la ví me centré más en ella y profundicé en lo que en realidad quiere decir, El principito representa **el niño que todos llevamos dentro** y los sentimientos de amor, esperanza e inocencia que alimentan nuestra vida. Su forma de ver el mundo motiva al piloto a escribir el relato con los dibujos para representarlos, así de alguna forma para reencontrarse con el niño que alguna vez fue.
Para el autor, los adultos, en su mayoría, son personas distraídas, aburridas de mente y con pensamientos cerrados...esta no es apreciada por muchos precisamente porque cuando el niño crece se pierde entre las responsabilidades cotidianas, se convierte en adulto, olvida los sueños que algún día tuvo.
En la película la mamá de la niña la comprende y colabora con ella cuando el anciano es llevado al hospital. La niña logra el cupo en la escuela donde su mamá lo quiso, pero esta vez no tuvo tanta presión en la entrevista para lograrlo.
