It's been a while I saw this movie so I had to see the trailer when it came to mind as one of the romantic comedy movies I've seen after a long while. The movie is a good expression of romance comedy, one of my favourite genres in the movie industry. I'm reminded my experience with laughing and smiling through the storyline.
Only rewatching the trailer brought memories of how the story went, and even the rush of emotions to the successes and good chemistry between the main characters. I'm even just finding out that I've recently seen a movie with one of the main characters (Zoey Deutch) in the recent romance movie "Voicemails For Isabelle".
As I've shared already, "Set It Up" is a romantic comedy movie, it was released in the year 2018 starring Zoey Deutch as Harper, Glen Powell as Charlie, Lucy Liu as Kirsten and Taye Diggs as Rick. The movie is about two assistants to workaholics setting their bosses up so they could be less busy on their ends, I read that the idea of the story came from the producer Juliet Berman who in real life tried to set up her boss with the boss of another assistant she is crushing on.
I think the storyline is very unique especially knowing now that it is based on an idea that as carried out in real life, so the movie shows what's possible in the real world even though it sounds and feels unreal. I mean, how often can we have assistants doing more than their jobs to actually find a partner for their Boss's love lives? It's a rare situation but the movie made it look possible.
I love the comedy in this story, for real. Even with the trailer, I couldn't stop laughing while smiling at some random flashes of scenes I can still remember from the movie. The chemistry between Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell as they work hard to set up their bosses felt so real, especially when they started to grow feelings.
I am reminded of a quote in the movie that stood out for me back then and I'd like to feature it here so it can stick again... "You like because, and you love despite". The quote says a lot about the difference in liking someone and what loving someone truly means. You like someone because of all their qualities and you love someone despite some of their qualities. I think it's a beautiful, thoughtful and very true quote.
Over all, the movie is a good light entertainment and suitable for a relaxing time because it just lightens you up with it's chaotic but purposeful duo who eventually succeeded in what they had set out to do and even got the extra package viewers would love to see happen, falling in love without realizing it. I'll highly recommend this.
