Fake Dating, Real Chemistry: "The Love Hypothesis" Review

Review by @merit.ahama 🏆#131 🔥3 🎵57 🎬124 📺120 · 2h · of The Love Hypothesis · 2 views

Another movie about fake dating that turned to a real love story but I like the refreshing style they gave to this one, considering it's a very recent release. We are in an era that is both very simple and very complicated too, I think the movie portrayed that well enough as they match love to science and the giving of a hypothesis on love.

"The Love Hypothesis" is a romantic movie released last month this year. Even though every character are introduced to me for the first time, they came off as really good actors to me. It's actually a movie that reminded me so much of "The Idea of You", "Purple Hearts" and the recent old movie I saw, "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days".

The movie introduces Olive Smith (starred by Lili Reinhart), a PhD student who is focused on her studies as she comes up with a new hypothesis she is trying for the treatment of cancer. She is in need of a lab, she's alone with no family, she meets a new friend who was so sweet that she sworn to do anything for her, she has a crush.

But as she has a crush on Jeremy Langley (starred by Nicholas Duvernay) who in turn has a crush on Oliver's new best friend Anh Pham (starred by Rachel Marsh). Olive noticed early enough and had to find a way to convince her friend to go on a date with who likes her, even though it means ending her crush on Jeremy.

And that is where Dr. Adam Carlsen (starred by Tom Bateman) comes in, a professor known for his intimidating personality. He is not exactly the kind of person everyone feels comfortable approaching, and his serious nature makes him appear difficult to understand. On a random night, Olive comes out of nowhere and kiss him.

What begins as an impulsive act gradually develops into them having a fake dating arrangement. Both have reasons for agreeing to the situation, so they establish boundaries around their pretend relationship. But spending time slowly erases their first impressions. The chemistry between the was so well portrayed.

What interests me most about the premise is the contrast between trying to understand love logically and experiencing it emotionally. I also love the supporting characters, especially the other friend of Olive who seem to always have something funny, wild and annoying to say.

I would recommend it to viewers who enjoy romantic movies built around fake relationships, contrasting personalities, and the possibility of unexpected love. However, anyone looking for a highly original or deeply complex romance might find the familiar plot less satisfying, it's rushed.
