If you've seen the movie "The Notebook" and remember the epic love story in it, you'd be interested to see this movie as its directed by the same person alongside other works. So yeah, I may have seen this movie with a bit of a high expectations because I saw "The Notebook" first.
Storylines about love is almost never tiring to see, except the "very badly" written ones. I love to see romantic movies but recently, I've been more focused on the ones from years ago. This movie is over 10 years old but still a gem to find for whoever is yet to see it, I like the unlikely ending.
"The Best of Me" is a movie released in the year 2014 in the genre of teen romance and tragedy starring James Marsden as Dawson, Michelle Monaghan as Amanda, Luke Bracey as young Dawson and Liana Liberato as young Amanda. A first love story between high school sweethearts.
The story begins with two high schoolers meeting in a "not so good" way, exchanging stares and missing the part where they ask each other out but later, they both realized it was love at first sight or kind of. Their love is tested with the guy's family but they get help from a guy named Tuck who's end was unexpected but a chance to bring them back years later after they've moved on and the lady married another.
What viewers never expected was the story that follows after the two sweethearts meet again, confess their love for each other but have to go back to their separate lives. I honestly wasn't expecting the separate lives to be badly executed as the guy's family still remained the villain till the end of the story which kinda didn't make sense.
And I'll say I enjoyed the young Dawson and young Amanda era more than the older ones, it's actually what took most part of the 1hr 58mins story. They did well with their roles and I'm surprised I've seen the young Dawson in another movie even though I didn't recognise him there.
Well, this is a good movie and good recommendation if you're in for a good love story with some kinda unexpected tragedy. At least, they'll give you a good consolation after the tragedy because it couldn't have been much better aside that ending they gave. I'll rate it 7/10.
