I thought I'd be able to see this movie until the end in silence and just grasp the whole message and the eventualities in the story. But that wasn't the case after a few scene, it got so intense that I could actually feel the emotions of the characters in the story. Life is truly a lot of things and life does happens to everyone same and differently.
The movie portrays a deep side of life that I have honestly not imagined much into because I've been opportune to not experience watching a close case or being one in such a case. The movie portrays the case of Addiction and the struggles to recover, relapse and recover again.
"Beautiful Boy" is a biography movie based on the story of David Sheff and Nic Sheff, combining their books (Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction by David Sheff and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff, David's son). The movie is starred mainly by Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet.
The story opens to "David Sheff", a father seeking professional help for his son who has done all kind of drugs and is addicted to a very bad drug called Methamphetamines that could potentially end his life after too many intake of it. David is very worried and wants to help his son out of it as the story takes us back and forth to how his son was once an innocent beautiful boy growing up. He beings a journey to bring back that boy.
"Nic Sheff" on the other hand, is an 18 year old boy who has been into different kinds of drugs since he was 12. It's baffling to think that he has a loving family who are quite well to do, spend time with each other but he still fell into the shallow promises of drugs as he claims to his father that it takes him out of the daily realities. From trying to recover to relapse to recovering again, we are made to go on cycles with his life.
The story didn't end with Nic totally free from drugs but I went on my own search to find out about the real Nic and it revealed that he has been clean from drugs since 2011 and that says a lot about his effort to put a total end to the misery he's been on. I must say, the character did so well in making the story feel so real, I could feel the pain of Nic's parents and step mother and Nic's fears as he keeps going back to drugs.
Overall, it's a good movie for everyone to see, I think it would act as a good scare for people who may want to consider drugs to feel happy, alive or needed. I appreciate that this movie was put out there for the purpose it was and my heart goes out for all the addicts in the world, it's not easy but I pray they find the strength to win over it.
