The adventures Of Sharkboy & Lavagirl
Hi hive, today I want to talk about a movie that I watched a lot when I was little, so I decided to watch it again to check if it was as good as I thought, that's why today I want to talk about The adventures Of Sharkboy & Lavagirl.
Sharkboy & Lavagirl is a movie released in 2005, Directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring a little Taylor Lautner, Taylor Dooley and Cayden Boyd, although this movie has a little bit of everything if I had to pigeonhole it in some genre it would be something like Fantasy/comedy. Now after giving some context, let's get started!
I want to clarify that many times we get carried away by nostalgia and believe that some movies are great when maybe objectively they have many flaws, my purpose in revisiting these types of movies is to find out if they are really little gems or if the basis of these movies is pure nostalgia, is sharkboy and lavagirl as good as we remember?
Normally I like to start talking about the positive factors of the movies, in this case I consider that the most remarkable thing is its concept/plot, obviously at the script level if it is true that it can have one or another hole and there are things that do not make sense, but in the end I feel that this itself is part of the film, we could say that Sharkboy & Lsavagirl is a child version of Inception.
Something that has always caught my attention is the aesthetics of this movie, and is that the visual effects are "ugly" and quite unreal, but it would be unfair to consider this as a negative point when I really feel that this aesthetic is apropos, I understand that it is not the movie with the biggest budget in history and we could not expect visual effects in the style of avatar, but the excess of green screen in the scenes and the color palettes so flashy make me think how much of that aesthetic is part of the film.
Genuinely I consider that in terms of the message of the film is a 10/10, it is a clear reference to the fact that many times parents are the same ones who cut off the dreams of their children, that for everything there are stages, and that having a great imagination is not bad and best of all is that it can apply to anyone of any age, it is not bad to be a dreamer.
As for the performances I really don't have a definite opinion, since there are scenes that are very cool, but there are others that fall into the weirdness, but it's not really something I dislike, more taking into account that all my life I have seen this movie in its Latin dubbing.
To be honest I do not come to say that it is a work of art, because it is not and does not pretend to be, it is a film with an interesting proposal in terms of plot and a very particular aesthetic, and if we add to all this a large portion of nostalgia makes Sharkboy & Lavagirl raises the level, but if I feel that much of the affection of this film is due to nostalgia rather than its objective characteristics.
In conclusion it would be a movie that I would watch countless times more, because it amuses me, has great moments and a story that engages, but when watching it with a magnifying glass if it falls in some aspects, however for me and for many of us it will remain a great movie.
I would like to know if you have seen this movie and if so, what is your opinion about it?
