La historia del holocausto judío siempre ha sido un tema muy interesante y utilizado en Hollywood, con película como por ejemplo el niño en la piyama de rayas, la decisión de Sophie y muchas otras. Esta en particular se aborda de la mirada intimista por ser basada en un hecho real.

La película nos cuenta la historia de María Altman, una mujer de 80 años, austriaca y de religión judía, quien vivía en dicho país durante la ocupación nazi. Ella y su esposa logran emigrar a los Estados Unidos, pero dejando todo atrás.

Después de un primer intento de nuestros protagonistas de intentar recuperar las obras de artes pertenecientes a su familia, Randol busca hasta el cansancio, pudiendo llevar su caso hasta la mismísima Corte Suprema en los Estados Unidos.

Maria después de múltiples fracasos decide dejar todo, mientras que Randol decide ir hasta el final, ya que también necesitaba el dinero. Al llegar a Austria, Randol decide escuchar un concierto de su abuelo, que fue un importante compositor de su época. Durante el concierto el abogado se rompe por dentro, y lo hace enfocar su vida desde un nuevo propósito.

Maria after multiple failures decides to leave everything, while Randol decides to go to the end, since he also needed the money. La historia se cuenta a través de una serie de flashbacks sin ningún orden específico, pudiendo saltar del su niñez, hasta su adultez y viceversa, pero con una maestría delicada.

La demanda de Maria por buscar una forma de arreglar su alma destruida por los nazis, su humillación, el destierro y el abandono, que se une con un abogado sin mucha experiencia luchando contra el sistema, sin desistir, a pesar de sus momentos de duda, es lo que hace tan buena esta película.

Maria's demand to find a way to fix her soul destroyed by the Nazis, her humiliation, exile and abandonment, that she joins a lawyer without much experience fighting the system, without giving up, despite her moments of doubt , is what makes this movie so good.
