I often hear a saying that movies are taken from our real life, I think it varies based on different genres. But yeah, sometimes I can relate to this a lot, as I did now. I was finding it hard to start writing about this movie, no words can truly describe it the best as much as the feelings within you can realize the impact.
Dead Poets Society is a teen drama film which is directed by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman. Actually, I was interested to watch this film seeing Robin Williams. I had no prior idea about the story or anything, I had just jumped in on seeing him.
The basic story of the movie starts with an educational institute, which has a vast amount of reputation and success. A lot of good families are arranging admission for their children there, they are the future professionals of the country, with a lot of hope and aspirations of their parents about their graduation. Welton Academy reminded its students about its four pillars "Tradition," "Discipline," "Honor" and "Excellence."
I have seen the same in my educational life too, institutes are after these things. They want results and noteworthy outcomes in practical sectors.
We would see a bonding of a few students growing, a group of friends. On the first day, they got Robin Williams as their English teacher, who was kinda different with his teaching methods, he was not teaching the usual bookish knowledge to digest. His motto was to make those minds free to make their lives extraordinary, not to see what the others are trying to make them see, they gotta feel they have a different and own way of seeing things too.
But you know, this kinda change doesn't always go smoothly. Going out of the box and making a change is kinda hard. He was trying to give those boys the wings to fly, to fly on their own and be the best at what they wanted and can be.
I have passed a long journey too, still going through this journey. In this whole journey, I may remember one or two teachers who taught me to go out of the box and inspired me to explore out of the syllabus. I have studied in some best schools and colleges as well as govt funded schools too. At my high school level, I met him, a govt school teacher yet very dedicated to teaching his students and acting thereby. My tech enthusiasm didn't escape his radar, I still remember his out-of-the-books conversations and he even gave a few materials too in these sectors to satisfy my thirst.
Looks like I got drowned in my stories, actually this movie would trigger these realizations of yours if you had any otherwise it may lead you to the bitter ones too that are shown in the last part of the movie. Maybe a spoiler but this movie turned out to be a great tragedy, I was sad and felt my eyes wet in the end. Wasn't just a story to watch, it was full of realization and self-inspiration. My words are incomplete and would fail even if I want to make you understand this fully.
