Jason Bourne Movies (2002-2016)

Review by @minhajulmredol · 1538d · of Jason Bourne

Okay, I have finished the movies from Jason Bourne's collection. I had written about the first two, The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, and then watched The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy and The last one is Jason Bourne. I must admit that it was an amazing ride with the actions and thrills given through this series. In the 4th one, The Bourne Legacy, I was first pretty upset for not seeing Bourne there, which was directed by Tony Gilroy but trust me it wasn't bad with Jeremy Renner as the lead character, first one was directed by Doug Liman and the rest of three by Paul Greengrass.

Well, if I want to drag a complete image of the whole story the key theme would be like the journey of a secret operation officer who is on loose and could be a possible threat to the Agency. CIA had a secret program called Treadstone from where Jason Bourne was created as an assassin, by created I mean to refer to the identity he got leaving behind his past. But the story starts after the journey of Treadstone, due to a compromised mission and then he was abandoned by the CIA, but he survived and the run of his survival started with the CIA.

If I briefly recap, the first two films are based on Treadstone things, he lost his memory and is trying to know who he actually is while running from the CIA. His skills and instincts always kept him one step ahead and he continued to destroy one after another attempt on him. The first one was somehow a complete package with a happy ending while in the second one Bourne was dragged into the story as he was framed for another CIA mess. Once again they are after him and he is again on the run, getting back his memories, knowing himself a little more, and kinda compensating for the deeds he did being an assassin while on Treadstone.

Let's move on to those that I haven't written about, The third one is The Bourne Ultimatum. Here we see a reporter learns about another secret operation from the CIA named Blackbriar and Bourne. Bourne had come to Paris to meet Marie's brother to inform him about her death which we saw in the previous film(sorry for the massive spoiler but don't worry, you won't remember much while watching all the movies together) and Bourne reads about the articles by the reporter and sets up a meeting. The CIA appears, finds Bourne once again and they are back after him. Well, here the reporter gets killed but Bourne gets the information about the informer of these leaks. Both the CIA and Bourne are after that informant to save from further exposure to these secret operations. Another Blackbriar assassin was sent after all of them and Bourne tackles him and gets some info. Well as the story forwards with the scene of the impressive action we get many thrilling moments and eventually Bourne's success and getting to where it all started from. He exposes that Blackbriar files through another CIA agent we saw in the Supremacy one. And this one ends with a hint of his survival, why hint? You will know when you watch.

In the fourth one, The Bourne Legacy, Bourne was absent as I mentioned back in the starting yet it was enjoyable with the story it represented. After dealing with Treadstone and Blackbriar we got to see another operation called Outcome and Aaron Cross as an asset of the program who is on training both with physical and mental experiments running by the authorities. Well, after 2007 Ultimatum in this 2012 released Legacy had an amazing visual improvement, that's the first thing I noticed and was excited about. Okay, after the exposure of the previous two secret missions the media was leaking different things one of which links the Outcome agents with the previous ones, and to stop further investigation on their ones they attempt to stop this just to save their other secret operations. One compromised mission can take down the others so they started their prevention by simply killing all their assets and related operatives. And here Aaron Cross survives somehow but he needs those med chems that were used on him for experiments and as everything related to this program was shutting down so it was a fight for his survival just like Bourne on the previous one against the authorities for his survival.

Well, this one didn't end like the previous ones, it was just completed with the survival of Aaron Cross with a romantic ending just like the first movie ends with Jason Bourne and Marie in The Bourne Identity and leaves behind a high chance to continue the story forward with Aaron Cross for future collaboration with Jason Bourne character.

As the last one so far, we got Bourne once again, hehe. He always ends up in the mess in one way or the other. This time, Nicky Parsons. Bourne disappeared for twelve years, free from all the problems and living in Greece. Nicky found some information about his family, about his father being linked to the Treadstone. Yeah, that Treadstone once again, always to this secret mission, with some problems and Bourne there on the run. Here Nicky Parsons paid a huge price for which I wasn't ready to digest, she was looking beautiful in that series, I really liked her eyes especially. Again, Bourne is on the run to find out the links about his father to Treadstone, how he was there, and his father was killed by them. Well, Nicky had stolen all the secret operations data from where she and Bourne got to know about the info for their hunt. Do you know the best part of this movie? One character that played games with our impression towards that character, literally played with my thoughts, played a double game with everyone and when the ending was going against our will, I was regretting where it was going to head, and then the massive boom. Made me say, "Holy shit, he just blew this."

Okay, long story short. This whole series represents many secret operations run by CIA to make things more controllable. They kinda play like fire to make things more effective, and sometimes those attempts backfire them. This kinda thing happened here, Jason Bourne is the person that backfired, also the Aaron Cross from the Outcome program is on loose. You see there is a very very high chance of forwarding the story with these two characters.

But one thing I would like to express is that when you sit to watch all of them together you will love it, all the actions, all the thrills will make you flow into the story on and on. But when you sit and try to recall you will see a similarity that it ends, another mission, another problem on his back, and he is on a run. Well, we can see a long journey in that too, but why does it need to be in the same format always? Maybe I am getting it wrong, or not seeing from another perspective, could be missing out on a point too.

Overall my impression is good, I loved the whole series of this Bourne collection. Filled with actions and thrills. Well, I have seen that there is a separate series on Treadstone released in 2019. So I might be going after that next. As I haven't seen that yet but from the name, I can guess that it could be about the creation, operations, and incidents of Treadstone focusing on details. Could be exciting, right? Surely it would. When we love watching a series or a collection of movies that ties us, we don't say 'no' to anything related to that. The same thing happened with Breaking Bad, I went after Better Call Saul and El Camino right after I found out about those.

Wtf, it has gone massive, I need to end here. Anyone who loves to watch crime thrillers or action films should watch this. I highly recommend it and believe that anyone would love just like I did. Happy Watching!
