Whenever we are together with our friends/cousins at night we often want to watch a movie, one of the fun stuff that we seek. Similar one, our priority was horror, action, or something thrilling. Action won by the majority but two were recommending John Wick, most of us have already seen it so we went for something similar and that was Polar, damn it was very similar to John Wick. Those who have watched it already shared the same opinion to be exactly a clone of John Wick, somehow motivated from that, hehe.
Polar is an action-thriller film directed by Jonas Akerlund and written by Jayson Rothwell. It's based on Victor Santos's graphic novel Polar: Came from cold. This was the moment when I was like, if it was based on a novel then why it felt so similar to John Wick, actually the story has some differences but our main character's performance reflected some of Wick's one, or maybe we were drowned with John Wick whenever we start to watch an action film. IDK, lemme know if you have felt the same or not.
Mads Mikkelsen as Duncan Vizla is our main character who is also known as The Black Kaiser. Here the main story is that he is an assassin who works for a company called Damocles and they have a rule that they will be paying their retired employees and Duncan's fiftieth Birthday is approaching and he is owed over 8 million on that day. The problem is that Mr. Blut, owner of Damocles wants to murder his retired employees so that he doesn’t need to pay from the retirement funds and it goes back to the company but Duncan was unaware of this fact in the beginning.
Katheryn Winnick as Vivian, I really liked her, she was somehow in favor of Duncan but she was also an employee of Damocles after all, well she was beautiful and so it drew my attention too, hehe. Two more things to mention about Duncan are that he gets flashbacks from one of his previous murders which are stuck in his head, over and over again he gets those flashbacks, murdering a family in a car. And the other thing is a girl from his neighbor with whom he was getting close, she was a very calm and timid girl. She has a dark past that haunts her too, kinda similar to Duncan, right?
So what do you think? Can you make some predictions, I bet you can, right? Hold on for a second, I did some too but they were completely messed up, hehe. Some were executed right as we always expected but some went wrong but came in a good direction. Just gave a very complex spoiler that is surely going over your head.
To be honest, It was a good film, if anyone hasn't watched John Wick already then it's gonna be an amazing ride, from direction to screenplay, and all of the characters were good at their roles. Am I bringing John Wick too much? I thought so too. Btw it has a lot of 18+ scenes, thought of giving this warning. So yeah, we did enjoy our night with this action film. I would like to rate it 7 out of 10, if you are looking for an action thriller then go for it, it has a good ending with some turning in the story.
