The Bourne Identity (2002)

Review by @minhajulmredol · 1547d · of The Bourne Identity

So this time with an action thriller film that I got to know just a couple of days ago. As I always say, I love thriller films, it's like having a tough time to say 'No' to a thriller film. This one is directed by Doug Liman, based on a novel from 1980. As the name of the movie indicates about Identity so the biggest mystery was to solve it, and yeah we did it.

So the movie started with a man who is floating in the middle of the sea and some fishermen spot him and pull him out of the water. During treatment, there were two gunshot wounds discovered on his back, and later a little laser device was found on his hip which contains some info. Well, the wounded person is Matt Damon, our lead character, on seeing him at first glance I was like, "Ah! This one is going to be amazing for sure." Actually, I haven't seen the trailer or haven't dug anything before watching, I just got the name somehow, and put it into my watchlist and later I picked it randomly and started watching.

So when Matt Donam came back to sense, he was clueless as to where he is, what was going on, and most importantly who he is. Yeah, he forgot his identity, he can't recall anything from the past but he has instincts from the past. That info from the laser device led him to a safe deposit box in Zurich where he got some proof of his identity, not one but multiple identities with passports from different countries. There was a lot of money and a gun in the box, he took everything except the gun and left the place. Someone from that place spots him and informs another group of people about his arrival and they turn out to be CIA officers. By now, Matt Donam has an identity to use which is Jonas Bourne, and he is on the move to figure it out.

At the CIA office, they talked about a failed mission and now they are after Jason when Jason realizes he is being followed and he gets escaped through his past skills. While escaping he takes a ride to Paris for 20k USD from Marie Kreutz to save himself, through this Marie got stuck with him as the CIA has also put her on the wanted list.

See they are on a run and it keeps getting intense with different difficulties and actions coming toward us one after another. He starts to know more about himself, about his identity, and about what he was up to. At one point he finds himself as an assassin, and these were the mysteries that were getting unfold slowly with some actions. Of all the action scenes I loved the one when he was hiding with Marie at her friend's house and another assassin was sent to kill Jason, I loved that part, his instinct made him aware, and the skills to make the moves. I wanna keep the rest unfolded for anyone who would be eager to watch it, but be sure that the ending scenes were also filled with some amazing action and it got a happy ending.

Ah one thing, was John Wick's pencil scene inspired by this one? Because in one of the scenes, Jason attacked an assassin with a fountain pen, and instantly the thought of John Wick appeared before me, hehe.

As an action thriller film, this was outstanding, loved it. If you prefer action or thriller genre films then it's a must-watch for you. You may go with the trailer first and I am sure you would love to solve the mystery and figure out Jason's identity, I went through the trailer in the end, hehe, me the zigzag. Personally, I would like to rate it 8.5 out of 10 as I have enjoyed every scene of it to its fullest. Happy Watching.
