The Outfit is a crime thriller film released earlier this year. It was directed by Graham Moore. This one served me as a slow-thriller, even in 2022 this kinda thriller gives us the vibe of old ones, the golden ones. All the characters, their roles, surroundings, etc combinedly give that feel that I have picked something from the back. The movie was good, that's what matters the most.
If anyone remembers "12 Angry Men" then we have seen how often limited characters and limited places can bring out a masterpiece. Ah! That was one of the pure masterpieces that I have ever watched. That kinda thing happened here, you would see a handful of characters here, also the whole film was done inside a shop, more than ninety percent for sure. And within a short runtime of one hour and around forty minutes it served me well.
So the story begins with Mark Rylance as Leonard Burling, who runs a shop in that area, he is a tailor. Well, he does refer to himself as a cutter mostly. So we would see some expertise of him in these skills also his shop gets used by the gangsters as a medium of exchanging letters. Well, there are three more key characters, in the beginning, two gangsters named Francis and Richie Boyle, the son of the head of this gang Roy Boyle. And another is the receptionist of that shop, Mable, she has a very close relationship with Burling like a father. Well, these are all the characters that the movie is about, hehe. Y, each this much, and a handful of supporting characters for a few scenes.
So the story catches its pace with a tape that contains very important information and all the other gangsters want this. In a shootout for this tape, Richie gets wounded and takes shelter in Burling's shoo, this was the safest place for them. What if Richie dies? What if someone from his side does this? As a gangster's son, there must be a massacre, right?
And here begins the complexity, manipulation, incidents, and everything. Clever conversation and cunning manipulations, murders, hiding, tricky games, revenge, a perfect combo. Well, here you might be winning on predicting about the characters but keep in mind there lies more than that too, their wits may make us thrilled too. One thing that I felt is it's a slow thriller, not some intense moment as I am shaking thinking about what's going to happen next. It's thrilling but not in that intense way, it takes us through some witty moves, and in the end, yes, as usual, a thriller movie isn't complete with the ending twist. Here lies one for us too, not shocked like falling from the sky but it was good too.
So from my ending lines, you might be thinking I have mixed feelings. It's not like that, I enjoyed this too, for any thriller lover it's worth watching like I am. My overall rating would be 7.5. If you are looking for a thriller movie then go for it, you won't regret it, Happy Watching!
