There is something refreshing about Alpha. Instead of giving us another spy movie where the men dominate every scene, this time the spotlight was firmly on two women who were just as capable, ruthless and determined.
Directed by Shiv Rawail and produced by Aditya Chopra, Alpha is the seventh movie in the YRF Spy Universe and the first female-led film in the franchise. It stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor*.
At the centre of the story is Sita (Alia Bhatt), a woman who had been trained from a young age to become an assassin. She wasn't your typical hero. She was cold when she needed to be, highly skilled and willing to cross dangerous lines to complete her mission. But her journey became much more complicated when the person who helped shape her into a killer eventually became a threat.
Then there is Durga Kaul (Sharvari). Together, Sita and Durga formed the heart of the movie, and their partnership brought a completely different energy to the YRF Spy Universe. They weren't waiting around for someone to save them. They were the ones walking straight into the danger.
And the movie certainly didn't hold back when it comes to action. The fights were intense, the missions were dangerous, and there was a constant feeling that something could go wrong at any moment.
What made the action more interesting, though, is that there were personal stakes behind it. These weren't simply characters fighting because the script needed a fight scene, their pasts and relationships were connected to the conflict.
One of the biggest attractions wasFateh Singh Lakhawat (Bobby Deol). His character brought a darker presence to the story, particularly because of his connection to Sita. The mentor-and-student dynamic between them added another layer to the conflict.
Then we have Vikrant Kaul (Anil Kapoor), who brought his usual commanding presence to the spy-thriller world. Hrithik Roshan also appears as Kabir, connecting Alpha even more closely to the wider YRF Spy Universe.
What I enjoyed most about the movie was the way it gave its female leads room to actually be dangerous. Sita and Durga weren't written simply as characters who needed to be protected. They were trained operatives who could fight, make difficult decisions and take on enemies who seriously underestimate them.
Of course, the movie still delivered the ingredients you'd expect from a big-budget Indian spy thriller—stylish locations, brutal confrontations, high-stakes missions and plenty of adrenaline.
But beneath all, the action is a story about identity, loyalty, betrayal and the struggle to break away from the person who helped create you.
OverallAlpha felt like a bold new direction for the YRF Spy Universe. Alia Bhatt and Sharvari bring a fresh dynamic to the franchise, while Bobby Deol provided a threatening presence that gave the story its darker edge.
If you're a fan of spy movies, action, revenge, unexpected alliances and stories filled with betrayal, Alpha is definitely worth watching.
