Damsel was a dark fantasy adventure that completely turned the traditional princess story on its head. Instead of giving viewers a helpless princess waiting for a handsome prince to rescue her, the movie followed a young woman who was forced to fight for her own survival.
The story followed Princess Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown), who had agreed to marry Prince Henry. At first, everything seemed like a beautiful fairy tale. She believed she was marrying into a loving royal family and was excited about the new life that awaited her.
However, shortly after the wedding, Elodie discovered that she had been deceived. What she thought had been a royal marriage turned out to be a carefully planned sacrifice. She was taken to a deep cave and abandoned there, where she discovered that the royal family had been offering brides to a terrifying fire-breathing dragon for generations.
Trapped inside the cave with nowhere to run, She had been forced to depend entirely on herself. She had no army, no prince coming to save her, and no easy way out. She had to find food, avoid the dragon and navigate the dangerous cave while desperately searching for an escape.
What made her journey interesting was how much she changed along the way. She started the movie as someone who trusted the people around her, but the betrayal she experienced had completely changed her. Instead of accepting her fate, she fought back and became determined to survive.
Millie Bobby Brown delivered a strong performance as Elodie. She effectively portrayed the fear, exhaustion, anger and determination of a woman who had been pushed into an impossible situation. Her character's survival became the heart of the movie.
The dragon also added plenty of tension. Every time Elodie thought she had found a safe place, the threat of the creature reminded her that she was still being hunted. The dark caves, fire and intense chase sequences gave the movie a strong survival-adventure atmosphere.
The supporting cast, including Angela Bassett and Robin Wright, also added depth to the story, particularly as more secrets about the kingdom and the dragon were revealed.
Although some parts of the story was kind of predictable and certain characters could have been developed further, *Damsel" remained entertaining. Its biggest strength had been the way it challenged the traditional "damsel in distress" storyline.
Elodie didn't wait for someone to save her. She became her own rescue.
Overall, Damsel was an entertaining fantasy movie filled with betrayal, survival, action and dragons. It wasn't a perfect film, but its darker take on the classic princess story had made it enjoyable, especially for viewers who liked strong female characters and survival adventures.
