The Raid: Redemption(2012) Review: A Relentless Action Ride

Review by @mmam 🏆#100 🔥4 🎵13 🎬10 📺3 · 6h · of The Raid: Redemption · 1 view

I went into The Raid: Redemption expecting a good action movie, but I honestly wasn't prepared for just how intense it was. Directed by Gareth Evans, the Indonesian action thriller followed Rama (Iko Uwais), a young police officer who joined an elite team sent to take down a dangerous crime lord named Tama (Ray Sahetapy). Their target was hiding inside a heavily guarded apartment building, and at first, the mission seemed simple enough. But it wasn't.

The moment the criminals discovered that the police were inside, everything changed. The team became trapped in the building, surrounded by men who had absolutely no intention of letting them leave alive. From there, the movie barely gave anyone a chance to breathe.

What I enjoyed most was how the film didn't waste time trying to impress us with unnecessary dialogue. It got straight into the action and kept raising the stakes. Every floor felt more dangerous than the last, and whenever I thought Rama and the others had finally found a way out, something else went wrong.

And the fight scenes? Absolutely brutal. The action didn't have that overly polished feeling where everyone seemed almost invincible. These characters got tired. They struggled. They were injured. They made mistakes. That made the fights feel much more believable and, honestly, more painful to watch.

Rama (Iko Uwais) carried the movie incredibly well. He didn't need to say much because his actions spoke for him. His fighting was fast, controlled and sometimes almost frightening to watch. Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) also gave one of the best performances I remembered long after the movie ended. His character was completely unpredictable.

The movie wasn't perfect, though. The story was fairly straightforward, and I would have liked to see more depth in some of the characters. But at the same time, I don't think The Raid was trying to be a complicated drama. It knew exactly what it wanted to deliver, survival, hand-to-hand combat, tension and plenty of chaos. And it delivered all four.

By the end, I genuinely felt like I had been through that building with Rama. I was tired just watching him fight his way from one impossible situation to another.

If you enjoy martial arts and hard-hitting action, The Raid: Redemption is definitely worth watching. It was violent, relentless and sometimes difficult to look away from.
