Empire of the Sun must be one of the most underrated movies ever made. Directed by Steven Spielberg this movie had so much heart, and still does 31 years after it's release. The whole story is told through a 12 year old boy eyes called Jim. You all know who played that boy, you could see from the start that Christian Bale would become a huge star. Probably the best child role in the whole of movie history. Let's put it in a crypto perspective, if there was an ICO called Christian Bale you would all buy it. War is never easy to watch, specially if it's seen from a child's perspective who has been left alone to take care of himself after being split from his parents during World War 2 in Shanghai occupied by the Japanese soldiers.
His whole trip in this movie is always hard to watch, what makes his troubles even harder to watch is his only true friend in the whole ordeal is an opportunistic character who would sell his own mother if he could called Basie, he is played by always great John Malkovich. Basie and Jim almost had a working relationship through out the movie and in every tough situation they managed to somehow survive. Later they were taken into a prisoners camp where living conditions were horrible, but the Jim's childish and always optimistic outlook on life was raising spirits to everyone around him. In worst possible condition where humanity is failing miserably one boy reminded everyone how pointless it all was. There is a powerful scene where an atomic bomb fell in the distance raising the tragedy to a whole different level, from the boy's eyes it looked like angels came down from the sky, but the harsh reality is hundreds of thousands innocent souls died there. One particular song in the movie's soundtrack, Suo Gan a traditional Welsh song adds another layer of greatness to this movie and cements it as one of the greatest anti war movies ever made.
