For a couple of months I have been hearing and seeing information about the new releases for this 2025, and well, beyond being happy to know that Solo Leveling and Dr. Stone would be among them, I saw that there was one in particular that caught my attention and I'm talking about Sakamoto Days. Once I saw the trailer I was not very convinced, however, I did not lose the curiosity to know why so many people were talking about this anime on the web, the last one I saw attracted by the hype was Dandadan and it turned out quite well, so I understood that there are anime that come with good support thanks to the success of their respective manga.
The Sakamoto Days manga has been published since 2021 and the truth is that I must confess that I was totally unaware of its existence, but that is perhaps because I do not usually read manga, I guess those who are more dedicated to this already knew what was coming and that is why they were not surprised that the premiere of this anime had so much hype. Anyway, to give you some information, this story was created by Yuto Suzuki who only has this serialized story, or at least I didn't find more information about previous or later works. The animation is in charge of the studio TMS Entertainment which has a very long history of good titles.

This story tells us about Taro Sakamoto, a super dangerous assassin who managed to gain the respect and admiration of the underworld, his skills are ridiculously superior to those of the vast majority, his patient attitude makes his next move can be an unknown, but usually tends to be very direct and aggressive in their attacks. The turning point of this story is that Sakamoto fell in love with the woman who would later become his wife, this caused him to drastically change his lifestyle and at a certain point he retired from contract killing to dedicate himself to his family and to run a store. Soon after, he put on weight as a result of inactivity and frequent consumption of instant ramen.
His retirement meant a great disappointment for those who admired him, but we know that those who have had that kind of life can't just retire, so at a certain point his former boss sent a guy to assassinate him and that's where Shin makes his appearance, this guy has telepathic powers, so he can read the minds of those who are close to him.
Shin did not like the idea of having to kill someone he admired, but he failed miserably in his attempt because Sakamoto, despite being overweight, still retains his lethal abilities. It is at that moment where the interesting and comical dynamic between these two characters begins, and it seems that they will give us quite entertaining adventures.
Sakamoto Days | Final Trailer | Netflix
So far I have only seen 2 chapters, but at this point I can already say that I liked what I saw. This anime transmits a kind of simplicity that linked to the good comedy that makes the chapters pleasant, they passed quite quickly because the story is direct, the flashbacks are brief, but with the necessary information to understand the dynamics of the anime. I must emphasize that one of the things I liked the most of what I have seen so far has been Sakamoto's attitude and personality, he wants to live in peace with his family and promised his wife that he would not kill again, but that does not mean he lost his ability to be lethal or his aggressiveness, in fact, I feel that at a certain point he is repressed.
The animation so far has been simple, but the truth is that it hasn't required more graphic depth, I think this is that kind of anime that is not featured for its animation but for its good story, so I'll ignore that section from now on. The opening theme is very good, it's quite typical, but I really like the chorus, so this song is already a candidate for one of my bass cover songs. I highly recommend this anime, I don't think you're going to dislike it, I think it's quite easy to get into the story, but the best of all is that you can laugh at the witticisms of the good characters that Sakamoto Days has.
