Severance

Review by @mypathtofire · 896d · of Severance

Name - Severance Released - 2022 Creator- Dan Erickson

I really wasn't sure about this show, I watched the first couple of episodes and thought, no this isn't so good. I don't get the story, it's not believable and a bit slow.

However, I decided to persevere and boy am I glad I did. The show is weird and mostly not believable, but it really sucks you in with some of the deep character story lines and some of the moral questions that are thrown up.

It also made me think lots about work and what it means to me, especially if you work in an office. These days you are usually just a small cog in a much larger machine and therefore don't make any difference and are easily replaceable. Is it worth it?

In the end, the storylines became really intertwined and keep you glued to keep watching. I found myself binge watching the first series until 3am and was a little tired in the morning for work ironically!

With the advent of more working from home, it is harder to relate now for me. Sometimes I go to the office to try and blend in with my normie colleagues, although their enthusiasm is sometimes overwhelming. Once I even went in before 9am.

My favorite scenes are where the office newbie tries to get out with some hilarious and tragic consequences. The idea that being in an office for 8 or so hours per day is like a prison sentence is really hit home here. It is no wonder that now home office is more prevalent, although there are some people who seem to love being in the office. I've always found plenty of other things to do rather than being in the office or working, but maybe im just strange.

Mark the main character who has recently been promoted to office manager comes across as really strange but he sort of grows on you and seems to have a big heart. I think that he is really well played by Adam Scott. I was really happy with the performance of all the main characters really and was happy to see Christopher Walken in the show too, although his character Burt was not so exciting as in his previous roles and there wasn't much opportunity for him to shine.

Most of the storylines were pretty interesting and kept you interested to see how they developed, although some were a little less interesting than others such as the Burt one and the painting dude was abit boring. The huge cliff hanger at the end with Ms. Casy was a big one that will pull me back for the second season. Something that wasn't answered was what the company actually does and how it earns its money. From the departments we saw, it wasn't really clear to me. I guess this is pretty similar for most large corporations really.

It is one of those things that don't really make sense in the show, but the other aspects of the storyline made it still very watchable. Tramell Tillman with his never ending smiling and punishing of the the "Inies" was also pretty impressive. He seemed unwaivering throughout the series.

I didn't realise Gwendoline Christie from Game of Thrones is also due to make an appearance now in the second series and I am excited to see where this series goes! So far there is no official release date, although it is expected maybe in April on Apple TV.

Have you watched Severance?

Thanks for reading.

Lmao yes. Office workers aren't worth that they can't be easily replaced by the boss.

It looks like a good reflection on that, I might give it a watch.

I saw the first season It was kind of slow moving scenario Tv show. I love the way the bad guys manipulate the main characters. I can't wait for the second season. Thank you for this review Regards
