Today I discovered a curious fact about the movie I want to talk about today and for that reason, I decided it would be a good time to see it, I must say that this was one of the first horror movies I saw when I was little and although it's been a while since I've seen them, I remember that the whole saga was very interesting, but I wanted to see it with different eyes after so many years, so today, I want to talk about an iconic movie that many should already know "Friday the 13th", let's start with the review.

This film released on May 9, 1980 is an American production of the horror and slasher genre (which at the time of release was at its most successful) and the story that we are presented is nothing far from what we know today, here we will follow the story of a group of teenage camp counselors who begin to be stalked by some unknown person who intends to kill them and this camp is trying to reopen after having been abandoned for a long time, which causes a panic in each of the people who were there.

Let's talk a little about what happens inside the movie, the story begins with a small introduction of the Crystal Lake camp in the year 1958, here a group of teenagers are singing in front of a campfire, but on the other hand, in one of the cabins someone has entered and is watching the children who are there and in the background you can hear the characteristic sound of this film which makes us understand that the murderer is near, but the scene returns to the group of teenagers singing in front of the campfire, who after finishing, two of them go to a kind of barn to have sex, but they are interrupted by someone who stalks them, but when he approaches them they do not seem to be scared, just surprised to have been discovered, but both end up being killed and so begins the film.

Several years have passed (not specified how many) and it's just Friday the 13th, we observe a girl heading to Crystal Lake, as she is not quite sure how far is left to arrive, she stops at a store to ask, everyone looks at her strange, apparently no one wants to go to the bloody camp since what happened, but apparently they have reopened the camp, so they just wish the girl luck and a truck driver going in the same direction ends up taking her, but before she gets on the truck, a strange person stops her and asks the girl if she is going to the bloody camp and warns her that she will never go back, because that place is cursed.

While the truck driver is driving he decides to get conversation out of the girl and ask her if her boss (since she is going to the camp because she is going to work there) has told her anything about what happened, the girl says no and the truck driver tells her that she should leave, because the camp is cursed, but the girl just thinks he is also like the stranger who stopped them before, but the truck driver tells her about the things that have happened, in 1957 a child drowned, in 1958 there was a massacre, there were fires and even when they decided to reopen the camp in 1962 the water was poisoned, but even though he warns her, she ignores him.

After the truck driver brings her as close as he can, the girl continues on her way alone to the camp. On the other hand, we meet the other teenagers who will be working at the camp and while each one fulfills his or her duties, someone in the distance seems to be hiding and lurking. We return to the girl who is heading to the camp, a stranger gives her a ride to get to the camp faster, we are not shown the driver at any time and when he passes near the camp and continues along, the girl begins to worry, so she throws herself out of the car to flee, but the stranger returns for her, will she survive?

From this point I will only talk about my opinion starting with the story, although if I am very honest, there is not much to mention, I mean, this kind of horror and slasher movies don't usually have a very complex story, almost all the stories are similar, the only thing that usually changes is the villain of the movies, but let's keep in mind that this is a movie from 1980, so clearly what worked back then was different, but based on what happens inside the movie I can say that it's a story that grabs you, uncertainty is the key here and they play very well with that.

I return to the theme of the year of the film, it is curious to see how the productions were before, here we can find certain jokes, scenes with a lot of sexual connotation that in a way was unnecessary, but apparently it was something that attracted attention and this is something that is repeated in many horror films of that time (and some current ones, but they do it in a more discreet way) and it makes me a little funny, because it makes you think that the killers of these films only like to kill people who want to have sex, because it is what is most observed.

The theme of the murderer or villain in this film is very interesting, because from the beginning they assure you that there is something or someone who did many bad things in the camp, but they never mention who or what did these things, because nobody really knows and in the whole course of the film we are aware that the murderer is there, even though we do not see him at any time on screen and this seems to me something very curious to do, because we are kept in the expectation of knowing who it is and ends up being a surprise ending, so I feel that the film keeps very well the desire to continue watching it, both to discover who is the cause of everything and also to see it in action.

The curious fact (it is more a curious fact for me because I did not know that fact) is that the creator of "Friday the 13th" had the idea thanks to the movie "Halloween Night", which was another slasher movie that was having a lot of success, so he decided to make a similar movie, but changing the killer and ready, at first he did not even have to develop the movie, but he promoted it, this caught the attention and allowed him to have 550 thousand dollars for the movie. The rest was history, the film ended up grossing $59.8 million, a resounding success.

Esta película estrenada el 9 de mayo del año 1980 es una producción estadounidense del genero terror y del slasher (que en el momento del estreno estaba en su mayor éxito) y la historia que nos presentan no es nada alejado a lo que conocemos actualmente, aquí seguiremos la historia de un grupo de consejeros de campamentos adolescentes que comienzan a ser acechados por alguna persona desconocida que tiene intenciones de asesinarles y este campamento está intentando reabrir luego de haber estado abandonado por mucho tiempo, lo que causa un pánico en cada una de las personas que se encontraban allí.

Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede dentro de la película, la historia comienza con una pequeña introducción del campamento Crystal Lake en el año 1958, aquí un grupo de adolescentes se encuentran cantando frente a una fogata, pero por otro lado, en una de las cabañas alguien ha entrado y está observando a los niños que allí se encuentran y en el fondo se escucha el sonido característico de esta película la cual nos hace entender que el asesino está cerca, pero la escena vuelve al grupo de adolescentes cantando frente a la fogata, quienes luego de terminar, dos de ellos se dirigen a una especie de granero para tener sexo, pero son interrumpidos por alguien que les asecha, pero cuando se les acerca estos no parecen estar asustados, sólo sorprendidos de haber sido descubierto, pero ambos terminan siendo asesinados y así empieza la película.

Varios años han pasado (no se especifican cuántos) y justo es viernes 13, observamos a una chica que se dirige a Crystal Lake, como no está del todo segura de cuánto le falta para llegar, se detiene en una tienda para preguntar, todos la ven extraño, por lo visto nadie quiere ir al campamento sangriento desde lo que sucedió, pero al parecer han reabierto el campamento, por lo que sólo le desean suerte a la chica y un camionero que iba en la misma dirección termina por llevarle, pero antes de subir al camión, una persona extraña la detiene y le pregunta a la chica si se dirige al campamento sangriento y le advierte que ella nunca volverá, porque ése lugar está maldito.

Mientras el camionero conduce decide sacarle conversación a la chica y preguntarle si su jefe (ya que ella se dirige al campamento porque va a trabajar allí) le ha dicho algo sobre lo que sucedió, la chica dice que no y el camionero le dice que debería marcharse, porque el campamento está maldito, pero la chica sólo piensa que él también es como el extraño que les detuvo antes, pero el camionero le cuenta las cosas que han sucedido, en 1957 se ahogó un niño, en 1958 hubo una masacre, hubieron incendios e incluso cuando decidieron reabrir el campamento en 1962 el agua estaba envenenada, pero aunque él le advierte a ella, ella hace caso omiso.

Luego de que el camionero la acerca lo más que puede, la chica sigue su camino sola para llegar al campamento. Por otro lado, conocemos a los otros adolescentes que trabajaran en el campamento y mientras cada uno cumple con sus funciones, alguien en la lejanía parece estarse ocultando y asechando. Volvemos con la chica que se dirige al campamento, un desconocido le da un aventón para llegar más rápido al campamento, no nos muestran al conductor en ningún momento y cuando este pasa cerca del campamento y sigue de largo, la chica empieza a preocuparse, por lo que se arroja del auto para huir, pero el desconocido vuelve por ella, ¿sobrevivirá?

A partir de este punto sólo hablaré de mi opinión comenzando por la historia, aunque si les soy muy sincero, no hay mucho qué mencionar, quiero decir, éste tipo de películas de terror y slasher no suelen tener una historia muy compleja, casi todas las historias se parecen, lo único que suele cambiar es el villano de las películas, pero tengamos en cuenta que es una película de 1980, por lo que claramente lo que funcionaba en ese entonces era diferente, pero basándome en lo que ocurre dentro de la película puedo decir que es una historia que te atrapa, la incertidumbre es la clave aquí y juegan muy bien con eso.

Vuelvo a tocar el tema del año de la película, es curioso ver cómo eran las producciones antes, aquí podemos encontrar ciertos chistes, escenas con mucha connotación sexual que de cierta forma era innecesaria, pero al parecer era algo que llamaba la atención y esto es algo que se repite en muchas películas de terror de ése entonces (y algunas actuales, pero que lo hacen de una forma más discreta) y me hace un poco de gracia, porque te hace pensar que los asesinos de estas películas sólo le gusta asesinar a personas que quieren tener sexo, porque es lo que más se observa.

El tema del asesino o villano de esta película resulta muy interesante, porque desde un principio te aseguran que hay algo o alguien que hizo muchas cosas malas en el campamento, pero nunca mencionan a quién o qué hizo estas cosas, porque nadie realmente lo sabe y en todo el trascurso de la película somos conscientes de que el asesino está allí, a pesar de que no lo vemos en ningún momento en pantalla y esto me parece algo muy curioso de realizar, porque nos mantienen a la expectativa de saber quién es y termina siendo un final que sorprende, por lo que siento que la película mantiene muy bien las ganas de seguir la viendo, tanto por descubrir quién es el causante de todo y también por verlo en acción.

El dato curioso (es más un dato curioso para mí porque yo no era consciente de ese dato) es que, el creador de “Viernes 13” tuvo la idea gracias a la película de “La noche de Halloween”, la cuál era otra película de slasher que estaba teniendo mucho éxito, por lo cual decidió hacer una película parecida, pero cambiando al asesino y listo, al principio no tenía ni el dinero para desarrollar la película, pero la promocionó, esto atrajo la atención y le permitió tener 550.000 dólares de presupuesto y el resto fue historia, la película terminó recaudando 59.8 millones de dólares, un éxito rotundo.

Quiero finalizar diciendo que, esta película fue uno de los detonantes que permitió que muchas otras películas que conocemos se desarrollaran y aunque si la ves actualmente te parecerá una producción muy simple y sin mucha historia, cumple con su objetivo de impresionar y esa fue la clave de su éxito, es curioso saber que fue una película que prácticamente copió a otra, pero cambiando pequeñas cosas y terminó funcionando a la perfección.
